Title: Wheel Bearings / Transmission noise
Post by: Al1040 on 06 March 2020, 20:39
Hey Folks,
I was wondering if anyone else is having excessive drive-train / wheel bearing noise.
67 Plate 7.5 GTD with 38k on it.
VW said they had replaced one of the wheel bearings at the last service in November, but I am still unhappy about the noise!
Any thoughts
Cheers
Al

I think its just the way and they are the road surfaces around your area, the tyres probably have a lot to do with it.
I`ve changed a wheel bearing with did contribute a lot to noise over 65 and changed tyres to PS4 but its still relatively noisy to my ears.
In saying that on going over really smooth tarmac the car is silent

Thanks Dervdave,
I suspect you are right, the fronts are due a change shortly PS's. The rears are still on the factory fit Bridgestones. For me its most noticeable  when it is in eco and costing down from 30 to a stop.
Tyre change soon and we shall see.
Cheers
Al

Good point both, what tyre would you go for if given the choice?

Everyone raves about the michelins being the best tyre but Goodyear and contis are good too.

Thanks all, will probably take it to an independent for a check prior to the warranty running out for a thorough check, we have a good one relatively local to us. I will probably stick to the Michelins and was considering the cross climates as the best all round tyre currently.

Cross climates are never the worst tyre rather than being the best at anything. Consider whether that's what you want.

Will do, was really thinking about wet weather traction (esp if I fit a Tuning box and or chip) as we do seem to be in a perpetual rainy state.

In that case I would suggest the excellent PS4
