Fault code 16514 advise needed
« on: 09 November 2012, 18:06 »
Howdo. Ive recently been getting the following fault code come up;

16514/P0130/000304 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S1: Malfunction in Circuit

Possible Causes
Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating Bank 1 Sensor 1 faulty

Possible Solutions
Check Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating Bank 1 Sensor 1

Ive deleted it a few times and it keeps popping up with the enginge managemnt light ontop of terrible fuel consumption :undecided:

is there a way of testing a lambda sensor? or as a general if there shot there shot!? as at around  £100 a go and  being an apprentice its fair bit of wedge if its not going to fix it.

anyone advise ?

Also am I right in thinking that this code is for the lamda sensor precat?

Could also be wiring to the sensor. I'm pretty sure B1 is the pre cat

I always used to get fault code 16804 when I fitted my 3" turbo back decat no res exhaust. but since having it remapped by R-tech they got rid of the code for good. but the new 16514 code has only recently been coming up. I might take a look under the car today and see if theres anything obvious.

If not do you think a new sensor will get rid of the code?

Faulty pre-cat sensor, its wiring or more likely an air leak between the MAF and the lambda.
Mind you, that code is pretty specific to the sensor itself.

i may have an old, working sensor if you need you.

The B1 doesn't mean anything other than its Bank1, But since these are only 4 cylinder cars they only have 1 Bank.
Only a 'V' engine would have a B1 and B2 code which tells you which bank of cylinders has the fault.
Its the S1 and S2  ( sensor1, sensor2 ) that tells you weather its pre cat or post cat, S1 is pre cat and S2 is post cat

Very, very true. But in this case its B1, S1. So it is the pre-cat sensor that is being flagged up. But yes, its S1 that tells you that! Good point.
