Fitting Catch Can
« on: 02 July 2012, 20:45 »
Thought id fit my catch can today, wish i never bloody started.

At first it was going pretty well, i followed the how to guide on UKMK4'S. Thought it was quite a good one until i realised it skips 3 or 4 steps and doesnt actually tell you how to do anything. So in summary its sh!te.

I managed to snap the pipe which comes out of the oil breather housing. Not good! I realised a bodge wouldnt be good enough so i just carried on with the install with the intention of ringing TPS. In the end i found the pipe on eBay.

I'll upload a few pics so you know what im talking about, but i cant seem to get a good fit. The hoses i've fitted seem to be either to long or to short. I get a couple of kinks when i place the can in the location where i think im going to mount it too.

Hello mate.  I'm sure you'll get it sorted, you look 99% there!
Couple of questions:
Which catch can is that?
Did it require closing off vac feeds on the inlet mani?

It's not gonna rot straight away but over time it will get weak and either collapse or break up

It looks to be near enough finished though mate

Great! So it'll hold up for a couple of months? I'll be having a remap around Oct time so ill re-do it for then.

Was onle £3 a metre!

Yeah almost there, just trying to figure out where to put the catch can. Wherever i mount it the 2 small hoses kink. Shall i shorten the hose from the Hockey puck, and the one from the Crankcase?

looks as though its pretty much there dude i also had the same pipe break well it was already broke  as for the kinks its just a matter of trimming off small amounts of the pipe at a time till the crease as pulled out thats what i did if it makes sense

ie the shorter the pipe the less chance of a kink
