When your 'improvements' have been completed take it for a decent run.

Fill up then over to France on the ferry, overnight stop somewhere around Bordeaux and you will be swimming in the sea off Algarve by late afternoon.

Best of all you shouldn't have to fill up on the way.

Ive done the run twice, previously from northern Germany and this year from Caen.

Not quite done it as yet but I have bought this:

A metal shifter bracket off a TT. Once it has been tidied up and bushed with a 42 Draft Designs kit it'll be replacing the plastic and rubber existing parts. Not sure how much difference it'll make but you have got to be in it to win it...

Now the part has been cleaned and the new bushes are on order

Can anyone suggest a satin black paint for the bracket which I'm assuming must be galvanised as Mr Google suggests it to be a pita and for one small job I don't want to be spending loads (especially as once fitted it won't be seen again).

Hi Watts,
What exactly will that bracket achieve for you?

Im assuming it tightens up the play in the gear stick but?

Ive not tuned engines since I was upping my various 1275 S's to 1299 in the late '60's so Im a little out of touch

😉

Dodged the rain to give it a wash and QD.  The old girl’s not looking too bad.

What a jaw dropping example. Stunning.  :nerd:

Hopefully, as you say, tighten things up by removing any flex. The short shifter made such a difference that I'm looking to tweak the shift quality further. If it doesn't make any difference or makes things worse then it is easily reversed and minimal outlay

Thanks gor clearing yhst up Watts.

Keep us updated on how it works out.

Only time I had a short shifter was in '71 when I went off the road and took the gearbox out on a redundant kerbstone lieing on the verge for collection, it took the gearknob down to the top of the tunnel, practically buried it in the carpet!
Oh the joys of youth

Love yours Booth!

Washed mine today too in the heat, even at 8am.
After lots of delaying finally got a DI vessel, what a game changer especially in this heat.
Also used my blower!

Need to get 2 of my wheels refurb though  just trying to find the time to arrange it.
Collected and being driven....... Gti PP 5dr DSG Tornado red, tints and Brescia's.
