Cost of running a Mk7

Hi Guys

In the market for a 2.0TFSI. Probably wont stretch to a PP as budget is only around 12k mark.

Can anyone give me an indication of running a standard Mk7? I can see the Road Tax is very reasonable at £150, and the mpg is great at around 40 on a combined run. How much should I be expecting for a minor and a major service, at an Indy of course, and replacing consumables like Brake Pads and replacing oil etc?

Above all else, are there any recalls or common issues which I should be aware of when I go to view cars?

As an indication of recent costs on mine (it's a PP so subtract a bit for the brake parts), I've spent approximately £300 on MTEC discs (with the coating so the hubs don't rust again) and Mintex pads and fitted them myself. The originals lasted 30,000 miles and the replacements don't produce anywhere near as much brake dust as OEM.

Just had a major service (the car is 6 years old) including the MOT and an aircon service and it was about £350 all in at my local independent VW specialist. Can't remember the price for a minor service though.

As you say, tax isn't massively expensive and the fuel economy is a lot better than the Mk6 equivalent was.

As warranty is long gone, you could do the minor (oil change) services yourself and just get the Indy to do the majors if you don't mind getting your hands dirty. About £45 all in (oil, filter, new sump plug) and a piece of cake to do (oil filter and sump plug easily accessed).

I started doing my own servicing as soon as the warranty expired and have saved a fortune. Wish it was £45, that will buy half the oil though lol. OP if you invest in a suction pump oil extractor it pays for itself the first time you use it and is a doddle to change your own oil and filter.

Brakes, I am on my original discs and pads on the front and put new pads in the rear last year at 80K miles.
