hey jeb,

brings back memories of my recent experience reading your thread. I had the very same problem on my brand new MK5. The top corner of the drivers door meeting the front wing seemed to tapper out and not line up with the profile of the car. It took the dealer 4 attempts to sort it out and on the final go, it looked good but they actually resprayed the door and wing!!!!

I rejected it because I told them I didn't want and paint work done.

I'm not driving a new replacement which isn't as bad but still has poor door alignment. Sadly I've come to accept this as all MK5 golfs as you say are hit and miss with the door alignment.

haveing worked in large body shop for 15 years ican safely say
mk5 golf doors are a pain in the arse to line up for a start the door skins
are bolted to the door inner frame but the parts that bolts to the inner frame are
bonded to the door skin so lineing up doors takes alot of time and if your
local vw dealer does not have a body shop your trusting your car to a
load of mecahnics who may not have any bodywork training

I got my driver side wing filled and resprayed from a local repair centre (vw asking for double =£480 ) the drivers side door i would say is now better aligned that the passengers side.

I had to laugh when the vw bodyshop stated i was taking a risk as the doors are hard to refit.

i think i was lucky

scotty, you allowed someone to fill and respray your car in order to fix this problem!

I would never had allowed that.
