as discussed - here's my problematic area. (havent washed the car for couple weeks so ignore the lack of shine :embarassed:)
instead of stone chips (though i do have a couple) i seem to have sh!t loads of scratches as if i drove behind a grit van. they are only light surface ones and you can only see them in bright light.
there i also one area (outlined in 2nd pic) where the paint is slightly dull

What sort of advice are you after? How to get rid of it?
Try throwing a post in the detail section - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?board=56.0
Looks horrible :( hope you get it sorted.
-
yeah - twiggy has a paint correction company. he quoted me on the whole car but i just want the bonnet looked at
-
right Adam i see the problem.
i cant tell fully but are the scratches down to the primer?? if yes then its a spray job mate as i cant add paint(but my sprayer can lol)
i can give it a whirl and get most of the light ones out and that dull area you have but i would have to see it in the flesh to see what i can do with the deeper ones if anything can be done about them.
Grant
-
no they arent deep at all - like i said you can only see them in the light. i doubt any of them reach through the laqueur. you do need to see it really lol.
-
then it should be fine for me to sort out for you mate.
when ever you want me to have a look at it drop me a PM or you have my number dont you?
ill sort you out mate and get the bonnet looking tip top

Hello there !!! Iv come across this before , what it is, your bonnet has most prob been sprayed before with what I would say is cheap laquer !!! Basically the laquer has no build on it , and scratches and cracks after time ! Worse case was a guy brought a car up to me ( I'm a paint sPrayer) after he took it through a car wash ! It's all cracked and blisterd ! I asked him have he had this part of the car painted before, and he said yes a guy done it ( out of a bloody van) smart repair ! Soni said its cheap paint he has put on it then . I got the car in , sanded down the paintwork , give it a good two coats of 2k primer, let it dry for a few hours ( this helps seal the crap paint underneath) then flayed down, and sprayed with proper paint !!!! I'm going from your pics, but what I know is you most prob can't even feel the scratches ??? Basicly coz it's all cracked underneath ! I'm viewing these from an I phone !! Hope this helps, or is at least some info for you !! Deano lfc

Cheers

-
not as far as i am aware - i know the wing has been sprayed (idiot drove into me) but never the bonnet, unless it was before i bought it :shocked:
-
then hopefully it wont be the problem that deano is about then, ill try and sort it for you mate first and see what we can do for ya

getting confised as my online name (xbox and things) is twig lol.
fe wof the guys looked at my bonnet in volksfest - Guy was able to tell me that the bonnet has deffinitely had a respray in the past using his paint dept meter, and there are also horizontal lines in the paint. it must be cracked as Deano said :cry:
one of my friends had a good suggestion and i was wondering if any of you guys know;
how much it will cost;
where i can get it done;
if it will look decent;
if i get a carbon fibre skin / wrap - prefferably silver the same as Hurdy had on his ED30?
cheers
-
get deano to give you a price on it mate, hes the sprayer :smiley:
what readings were you getting with the guys paint depth gauge???
-
it varied fromabout 3.6 to 2.2 i think, i don't really remember :lipsrsealed:

From 220 to 360 you mean mate. Knew it had some paint in its life.

what he said :grin: :laugh:

just rang a place local to me that does carbon wrapping - they quoted £150 for the usual black colour or around 50% more for the less demanded silver coloured :undecided:
seems a bit backwards to me lol
-
They probably buy the black carbon wrap in bulk and get a discount on it. They might have to order in your silver wrap leading to the extra cost :sad:
-
For the price they quoted you I'd get the bonnet resprayed :undecided:

i was thinking the same thing mate :sad:
-
found a place that will do the silver carbon wrap for £150.
do you guys think thats a good price, and do you think it will look good, or cheap and crappy?
-
I would try and find out what materials they use.
In my opinion 3M carbon wrap is by far the best.
-

^^This, not keen on carbon wrap.
-
just a thought, depending on the colour change of the paint due to the sun ect wouldnt the whole front end need to be painted so it wouldnt look odd, or would he get away with just the bonnet painted ?
-
i've had a new wing and bumper replacement and the paint mach is quite good. i have emailed 3m and they need my size specs for the bonnet but it looks like they can supply the silver wrap for about £90 but i fit it myself :/
-
fit it yourself ?? forget that , i carnt even fit a mobile phone screen protector without bubbles...............for that reason im out :tongue:
interested to see how it looks if you go for it m8 :smiley:
-
yeah i'm not gonna fit it myself lol. F that - watched videos and as simple as they say it is, no way do i want to attempt.
have found a company that will fit your own vinyl for £40. £130 for silver stuff, not bad :wink:
-
*cough* remap *cough*
-
*cough* remap *cough*
lmao.
yes yes - forst of all i will get my de-cat downpipe. Can get a custom one made for £145 including all neccessary adapters/ flanges.
then performance filter and will look at some sort of air feed improvement for the standard box (should be a £20 job all together, though not really expecting any gains, just the better air flow)
THEN
remap - would prefferebly like a rolling road involving map so i can see the gains on paper, but on the other hand, i know Rhyso won't let me down :wink:
