Title: Keyless access system faulty
Post by: Pixwix on 27 February 2021, 18:08
Getting this error message today... and yeah keyless not working. Any tips for clearing without a dealer visit, which I’m sure will be expensive . 2016 Gti. Obviously I can use the fob but the warning light is annoying. .. and I for one quite like keyless.

Here’s hoping .. I kinda tried the first one earlier but was in a rush and think I pressed the wrong button, well I hope so as it didn’t work. Will try again tomorrow.

So .. I unlocked it with the remote today to move it to wash.. noticed the warning symbol wasn’t there , thought , brilliant it’s fixed itself! Just went out to move it back and it opened keyless, great, then the warning bong sounded and the message popped up . Tried the combo suggested in the link above , no joy unfortunately. Any other ideas anyone?

I think you need to get a fault reader and see if a fault is logged. There are a number of potential issues.

Something like a carista? I loath to spend a lot as haven’t any mods or anything I want to make..

Understandable, I suppose it's all down to whether you want to deal with it yourself or not.

Well it’s out of warranty so worth a look and an idea before I potentially have to take it somewhere I guess. Will search the posts relating to carista and obd11.  Cheers

Haven’t yet ordered obdeleven. But I think it might be the drivers side antenna. The light on the key fob blinks when I try open or close the passenger door (it flickers by boot catch, boot sometimes opens) but no light on the fob when I try to open/close  drivers door keyless.
So I guess I now need to discover whether a new antenna and fitting is a diy job and if it is whether I would still need obdeleven to clear the fault. If anyone has any thoughts I’d be very grateful.

Yeah, scouring the internet for the last few days .. especially as I have discovered a new door sensor , unpainted, is £178 excl vat abd fitting.

Yes and you'll almost certainly need it coding to work with the car, unlikely a security system will be just plug and play...

Maybe its nature's way of telling you keyless is bad for you

Tbh I like keyless.. even though that’s how my last car got stolen
So if it’s an expensive fix then I might just disable .. but am still debating a whole change of car thing.
That price was from VW so presume they’d do the recoding as part of the fitting.

Will I be able to turn Kessy off with Carista? And get rid of the annoying warning message and ding

Not sure about carista, you certainly can do it with some of the other OBD tools - you disable the controller. Somewhere on here are the instructions for the values you need to edit.

Well think I’ve officially fallen out with Kessy - dealership have just quoted me £538 for a new door handle. Painted and fitted. .. oh and obv I’d have to pay for the diagnostic first.
So.. if i get carista or obdeleven I preseume I can get rid of the warning message and turn off Kessy?
Obv if the diagnostic shows it’s something cheaper I might get it sorted.
So dilemma is do I do the diagnostic, have to get a means to do it. Will I understand the diagnostic output enough to know what the issue is! Or do I let the dealer do the diagnostic ?
I’ve not much I’d want to do going forward with a diagnostic tool, though I suppose it would always be useful?
.. and not sure which tool to choose.
I realise I need to make the decision but any informed, or otherwise😃, opinions welcome!

Just a couple of points, firstly you need to find out what the fault actually is. Then, at some point you will have to get it fixed afterall, any buyer is likely to notice and will probably walk away or a dealer will knock the cost off any purchase price.

Yes , know I’ve got to do diagnostic at some point .
Have yet to decide whether I’m keeping the car for a few more years or not anyway. And I might be happier getting something knocked of a p/x rather than forking out the money directly myself .. at the moment it seems like I’d be paying an awful lot for very little. Maybe after a few days I’ll come round to the idea a bit more.
