I know i can drive an insured car with no MOT to a garage for a pre-booked MOT.
Question is, if it fails, can i still drive it home?
-
I believe your allowed to drive to AND from the place of the test ONLY.
So as long as you dont go anywhere else en route, you should be fine
-
What about filling up with petrol?
-
I'm sure they would be fine as long as it was comming back from failing your mot getting the fuel in the way home you can't just dump it half way home.
-
I thought you had to be insured:-
Driving an untaxed vehicle to an MOT test
You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station as long as you have adequate insurance cover in place for the use of that vehicle.
This is also for vehicles being driven to and from a pre-arranged test at a Vehicle Inspection Check (VIC) test station, an approved weight testing station and reduced pollution test.

I tihnk he said he was insured?
Plus just remeber it reallt depends what it fails on becuase if its something big the garage has to by law keep the car until its fixed or deemed safe back on the roads the decision might be taken from your hands in going home?
-
Yes you're right, misread that
As for filling up with fuel, if stopped it could be argued that a fuel can could be used instead of having to take the car to the station. Frankly I think that would be very pedantic, as long as the garage was en-route.

Cheers guys.

I would avoid going for fuel.
The test case on this was where some guy had stopped for fags on the way to the test.
Straight there, straight back, no messing about.

I seem to remember it being "via any reasonable route" but this is likely to have changed. Plus if you get a pedantic copper when you stop for fuel, out will come the ticket book. Get some fuel before you go and go straight home!

Well its sorted now, just got to do the tax.
It passed with no advisories. I now have 3 cars and a van
