My central locking went when changing headunit... HELP!!!

Bit of a story....

I have a mk4 golf 1.8t 1998,. When i brought the car it neva came with a headunit so i decided to put in my alpine... as normal i brought an adaptor plugged it in and blasted the music up. Now when i got home and got out the car the central locking would not work!! so i thought ****! 

i had locked the car from inside and creeped out the boot so the car was locked for the night.

next morning (i got back in through my boot!!) went straight to vw and they re-coded my key (£70) so my central locking works but told me it was becuase of my alpine headunit and they disconected it saying i cant use that!!!!!!!!

i thought what has a headunit got to do with my central locking so taking VW's advise i brought a original golf headunit and all works fine ... for about 3 days....now all off a sudden the original golf headunit does not come on anymore??

i have heard i have to change the wiring on the ISO or something like that....

Has anyone had this sort of problem??? becuase this sounds right stupid to me that i cant put whatever headunit i like in the car i paid for becuase my central locking wont work then!!

any suggestions on how to get around this as i would like to put in my alpine and VW aint much of help! or anybody whos had this problem before??

anybody know what wires i have to change and how if you give me a step by step becuase i cant find much help searching this up either.

this happens not only to vw's but audi's aswell with alpines
you will find if you unplug it your central locking will work again
i will try and find the pin layout in the iso to let you know what needs to be done to stop it from happening again

yh iv noticed that too that when i umplugged it evrything worked fine  .... the ISO layout will be brilliant... thanks mate

I think they are wrong, I had a similar if not the same problem with my mk4. It is to do with the switched lives at the back of the stereo. you need to disconnect one of them (i think) see here for my problem.  http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=90161.0
Also use the search button as this seems to be a regular problem. I have an Alpine and mine works fine now!
I also think that they make an Alpine designed to go into golfs so would be stupid if you couldn't use it!

i got fed up with it all so i got the original gamma headunit and i brought a in dash cd changer from ebay.... and it all works fine... hopefully will stay that way... thansk for your help anyway guys

Basically locate and disconnect the k wire!

Yeah give it a try - really easy.  All you need from that guide is the bottom bit 'Fix the Problem', ignore all the other crap!!

off the topic question... what is the psi on a standard mk4 golf gti 20v turbo???
