Pleasseeee?

Sony Xplod or Alpine. Had both and were/are fine!
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 25 May 2011, 15:18
Also you need to check the depth of the speaker and what space you have available.
The two I mentioned are fairly shallow but if you go for something better quality it may be a deeper speaker. (not deeper response)

Vibe or Edge are also good - i want these to replace mine - http://www.vibeaudio.co.uk/car/blackair-subwoofers/
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Dan n Nic on 26 May 2011, 13:20

Cheers, it needs to be shallow due to space available.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: B-chi on 28 May 2011, 14:20
What space is available?

What amp will be running it?

You after a boomer or an SQ sub?

Budget?
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: S11EPS on 30 May 2011, 16:44
If budget, space and the amp that you're using will allow then I'd plump for a JL.

Post by: Tazzy on 01 June 2011, 11:07
i agree with vibe or jl

dont agree with sony though, sorry, despite being a renowned company, they make awful car audio, its like they only do it just to branch out into all markets, subs, speakers, head units, all crap!
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: B-chi on 01 June 2011, 11:37
Anyone who names a speaker range explode is asking for trouble.

What to want the sub for will depend on what to go for. Also how delicate your ears are.

If you can't tell the difference no point spending the extra.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 02 June 2011, 13:31
As the OP didnt mention budget as a starter bottom of the rung the Sony's were fine for me!

Now he has said depth is and issue I very much doubt vibe or jl will fit. When I was researching subs they would not fit in my enclosure!
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Tazzy on 03 June 2011, 23:31
vibe make a slim line sub which apparently doesnt lose any of its quality
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Snoopy on 04 June 2011, 14:51
depends what he classes as shallow.
We need more info
box size
type
location
power available
how loud does he want it
how low does he want it too play
whats his midbass units he has to help blend it in with
budget
what tunning available he has, eq crossover etc
music types
any mechanical sound tailering been done to the car already
etc
etc
etc

don't forget Fusion or InPhase :)

What's up with fusion gear? Inphase I understand.

I managed 142db with a single fusion 12" off 1k. That's pretty good off a single 1k 12"!

Post by: Dan n Nic on 05 July 2011, 22:28
Sorry guys. Thanx for all the posts, I've been away for a while (wedding, honeymoon n all that). I will check depths etc and post details. It's for a home made box that was already in my T4 so not too bothered about amazing sound quality and didn't really want to spend any more than 100 squidlies really. Just an all around performer for the money really. A lot to ask?

Thanx.....
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 06 July 2011, 08:54
Is that a 100 quid on the sub or sub and amp?
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Dan n Nic on 06 July 2011, 15:38
Sorry, £100 on the sub, amp etc all already in place. I currently have a 10' infinity sub which is quite old and has finally given up. If I recall from when I originally measured it, it is approx 120mm deep.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 06 July 2011, 16:12
Well from recent checking think you will find that rules out most of the big boys!
Check out Infinity again or JBL
I think a Sony one is about £50 and say an Alpine 60/70 quid.
You'll have to scan through say Caraudiodirect and see what there is.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Dan n Nic on 07 July 2011, 15:26
Ok so Which is best from the following and come to that, what is the difference between the two Alpine's?

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/vibe-blackair-10.html (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/vibe-blackair-10.html)

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-sws-1043d.html (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-sws-1043d.html)

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-sws-1023d.html (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-sws-1023d.html)
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 07 July 2011, 15:36
Cant see any difference other than numbers between those Alpines and mounting depth is fine!

However that Vibe is 150mm deep so no good if you only have 120mm!
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Dan n Nic on 07 July 2011, 19:25

Ahhh, well spotted. Think I may have copied the wrong link.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: B-chi on 07 July 2011, 22:04
Difference between Alpines is coil config.

1023d is dual 2ohm. Wired to either 1 or 4 ohms.
1043d is dual 4ohm. Wired to either 2 or 8 ohms.

You'll want to match the coil config to that of your amp.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 08 July 2011, 08:58
Thinking of changing my amp and sub, what should I go for B-chi?
Dont want top range.
Must be a 4 channel amp and 10 inch sub and think my max depth is 140mm.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: B-chi on 12 July 2011, 07:43
Can't remember what comps your running Len? Infinities wasn't it!

What's ya budget?
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 12 July 2011, 08:54
Yea Infinities in the rear but they off the HU.
Front door speakers are those SPL bass units.

Budget, well nothing silly, so a few hundred pounds say.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: B-chi on 12 July 2011, 12:51
Diamond d1104.2 ex demo from cas looks to be good value. Should produce a nice background rumble.

Is it going in a sealed or ported enc?

Paired up to a jbl 1004e amp. 100w ea side to mids and 200w to the sub.

£75 for sub and £120 for amp.

That's the route I'd go for. Or look out for second hand.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 12 July 2011, 12:57
Its in a ported enclosure.

Having trouble locating that sub! Seems to be discontinued.

Diamond do some lovely kit mate.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 12 July 2011, 20:49
Must check the actual mounting depth I have before I order!
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: B-chi on 12 July 2011, 22:03
There 4.5inches so should be plenty.

There is a slightly beefier model but that one is a bargain. Not going to get loads of output but should sound very sweet indeed.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 13 July 2011, 08:49
I like beefy!

Getting some distortion on high volumes atm so will try changing these two things first and see how it goes.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: B-chi on 13 July 2011, 09:09
Well if you like beefy maybe not the best woofer then mate.

What power are you putting into your current sub?

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/8767.html

Didn't see this yesterday. This will have a fair bit more boom whilst retaining the SQ qualities.

If you want more boom then maybe a 12" might be more suitable.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 13 July 2011, 11:32
Cant fit a 12" in my wheelarch box!

i had mutant sub in my gti, couldn't fault it. Reasonably priced and very good quality of bass
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 13 July 2011, 11:36
Hmmm those are a bit deeper so maybe pushing it! Will get the tape measure out tonight!
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: B-chi on 13 July 2011, 12:03
Mutant are very much a budget, low quality brand. You could always find something better.

Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: B-chi on 15 July 2011, 09:37
JL work very well in small sealed enclosures. Also work in smaller ported. Nice sounding woofers. I haven't heard the 10 but impressed with the 12.

Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 17 July 2011, 16:21
I actually have 20cm depth so that changes things!
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...

Diamond D610 4 ohm. How about that?
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: B-chi on 18 July 2011, 12:35
Nice looking sub mate. For that price range I'd also consider the JL. Both very capable subs.

Haven't heard that particular diamond but would of thought it would be nice.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 18 July 2011, 13:34
Been looking at JL too!
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 18 July 2011, 13:59
Like the look of the JL 10W6v2 but a bit expensive at £332.50!
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: B-chi on 18 July 2011, 19:30
Haha. Yeah nice woofer.

Try, I think, the W3. £190.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 19 July 2011, 08:44
Yea thats more like it! Just dont look as meaty, but thats all hidden anyway!

Still with that JBL amp?
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: B-chi on 19 July 2011, 22:17
I'd say so.

From memory the jbl amp runs at 2ohms so you'd need a D4 W3 if you went down that route.

What size box you got for it? Id of thought around 1.2cu ft tuned to around 35-40Hz would be good.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 20 July 2011, 08:57
Difficult to measure my box! Its shaped to fit around the wheelarch, but will be at least 1.2cuft probably more.

Will have to decide between the JL and Diamond then.

Well CarAudioSecurity are a load of sh!te!
Card holder address only! No good to me! So they just lost a £300 order!

Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: B-chi on 20 July 2011, 12:39
sh!t that's not good.

Not sure who else. Cad are a bit more pricey than cas.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: B-chi on 20 July 2011, 12:46
Have a look at www.audioassault.co.uk

They used to be a bit pricey but they look like they've dropped a bit.

They've got the jbl7001 amp. Also with your sub budget increasing have a look at digital designs and resonant engineering, in particular the se10. Quite possibly the best all round sub out there.

DD do some amazing streetbass subs.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 20 July 2011, 13:09
CAD didnt have the combo I wanted

So have used the Audio Assault.
Cost me a bit more as CAS had an ex demo amp at a reduced price but hey if they wont play ball and do the sensible thing.......

Oh have gone for the jbl amp and the Diamond D610 sub
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 04 August 2011, 13:08
Still waiting for the sub!
Nearly 2 weeks late now!
Audio Assault blaming FedEx.
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...

Thats pretty sh!t.

Have you got tracking or anything?
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 04 August 2011, 13:50
The FedEx tracking basically says nothing! Got transferred depot to depot then it goes dead.
Some strong emails are being sent to them as we speak!

May get it tomorrow.

Is this the delivery people or audio assault?

Talk about dragging it out. What a bunch of pricks
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 09 August 2011, 08:42
Well Fedex finally admitted it was lost yesterday so Audio Assault dispatched a new one.
Now they have not said who the courier is...........

Well all I will say is their customer support is non-existant! As a customer I was treated as a 3rd party not as it should be the 1st and most important party!
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...

Pretty poor on both accounts by the sounds of things.

Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...

Would have had much less hassle buying from CAS and dealing with the home delivery problem!
And saved myself some money!

Well another week goes by and still no sub!

Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: Len on 14 August 2011, 17:57
Yea so do I!

Fitted the speaker into my box. Boy is it heavy!
Just need to see how I can mount the amp now!
Title: Re: 10 Inch Sub recommendations...
Post by: B-chi on 15 August 2011, 06:44
Make sure it's in a nice secure baffle. Any flex in the box will loose you output & quality.

Good you've got em finally.

The hassle of waiting for and arguing with the speaker supplier? No nothing is worth that!
But as for the new amp and speaker yes its very good.

The 10''WX in myside box enclosure kicked very hard. Sadly it didnt last as long (blew the voice coil this week). The WX stuff is cheap. You want the W3 and upwards if you can afford it.

currently looking for a new sub myself without the JL pricetag

Just a cheapish Alpine, I was really stuck for space and the Alpine fitted with very mino adjustments to the box.
