Title: Daily Mk2 Scirocco Scala slow moving project
Post by: ash-lough on 05 October 2010, 20:57
Bought this back in April and have made pretty slow progress so far, thought I would start a thread to maybe inspire me to do some more, plus its payday tomorrow!

Here are some pictures to start off with:

How it was when I bought it.

New (temporary) wheels to replace the awkward 17’s

A little lower:

Another set of wheels:

That is how it stands now, got a lot of plans for it just not the time and money. I will take some more pictures in the day when I can.

What a lovely find... nice car!.. jelous.  Shame the previous owner ruined it with a bad ride height and wheel combo.. glad you're seeing to that, other than that, awsome.

thats nice!!

i was looking at roccos on ebay the other day, i want another one so bad!

the late scalas had the k-jet injection engine, whereas my late gt2 (J-reg) had the 90hp carb'd engine, although it flew on a k&n carb

i'd like a real early mk2 rocco, on widened 13" steelies
Don't see many Scirocco's now, looks a good find.

plus most are LOW milage, my old one had about 79k on the clock, and the interior was 100% mint. The engine was the smoothest ive driven. the paint was shocking though, no rust but a bad respray

Cheers for the comments guys!

It is pretty low mileage just about to hit 99000.

I really like Scirocco's, think I need to get one at some point soon.

I'd definitely say get one! They are so cheap and fairly little hassle, the only problems i've been having have happened because ive changed something.

I'll try get it cleaned and take a few more pics today.

I love that, the only thing is the debadged/changed grill, don't like it.

Very tidy Scirocco.

people used to tell me the GT2 was the one to have, but the scala had the 112bhp k-jet engine, 20 more than the GT2

Post by: ash-lough on 06 October 2010, 23:04
Yeah, its just the standard Scirocco kit.

Regarding the front end I think im gonna get one of the old passat gl grilles so I can keep it long and still have the badge, but that can wait for now!

Fitted the new wheel bearing which finally got rid of the annoying noise coming from the rear. Then it was time to have a go at making the MK1 golf fuel filler neck fit the Scirocco and give it a good clean. There’s also a picture of the guy next doors nice motor which he was kind enough to let me drive.

Old and new.

Couple of updates:

Finally got a new exhaust fitted, I was unsure of the look at first but now I quite like it. Sounds nice too!

Fitted my eyebrow spoiler, which I havent yet photographed.

Had my camber and tracking set up.

Oh and theres also a picture of my mums strange new car, which I think is actually quite cool.

Just as I was about a mile from Loughborough one of my radiator pipes split, luckily I had some water which I poured in and managed to make it home and now the car is empty on the drive

At least that gives me something to do at the weekend.

You cant see the split but it is the one with the rusty clip just above the bottom rad pipe.

I'll get so me more pics up soon.

Wing spray and new wheels next!

I'm a fan of this, although it needs to lose the balloon tyres! I bet they offer more damping than the coilovers! Is that a nissan cube? Jeremy clarkson ripped them so bad on TG!
Title: Re: Daily Mk2 Scirocco Scala slow moving project
Post by: ash-lough on 10 January 2011, 10:31
Haha, I'll send my old man that link see what he says.

Yeah its a cube, she isnt into cars but after seeing one in Japan has always wanted one. I hated the idea at first, but its not bad better than the almera she had before . Also its and import so has a few of the Jap extras, the spec for the amount it cost is pretty impressive.

The wheels are only temporary till I find a set I want/have the cash to get a set I want. Ideally I'd like a set of ATS cups (I think)

Post by: tsr_adi on 10 January 2011, 11:44
I've had a few import jap cars, the spec they come with is always impressive compared to UK cars. I can imagine its much better than an almera!
Title: Re: Daily Mk2 Scirocco Scala slow moving project
Post by: ash-lough on 10 January 2011, 13:07
The Almera we got stupidly cheap at £1100 for an 03 plate with 9000 miles on the clock and so was a worthy buy just to use as a part ex car.

If the Rocco ever breaks I'll be coming to the meets in the Cube!

Just found this and thought maybe we should have a fund raiser at the next meet, would be cool as fu*k on your car

And a tombola for my old engine parts.

It does seem fairly cheap, but isn't there some sort of problem which is why he is selling?

Title: Re: Daily Mk2 Scirocco Scala slow moving project
Post by: Peej1981 on 10 January 2011, 18:09
Yeah there is but i think it wasnt anything to do with what is listed, think he said his engine blow up and this is why he is stripping these parts off it to sell.

I can tell your tempted   Now all we need to do is convince the other bomber county dubs to join in

There was a problem with his engine originally so bolting extra power to it made it sh!t itself (in the exact same way mine did)

I see, I'd be a lot more tempted if my car was a weekend toy and not a daily cos then if it did go tits up it wouldn't be as bad.

Thats not to say I couldnt be tempted

We could have it as a team building meet

Title: Re: Daily Mk2 Scirocco Scala slow moving project
Post by: tsr_adi on 10 January 2011, 20:48
Well it wouldn't actually be a G60, it would just be a rocco turbo. With it being K-jet, it would need the G60 or even digifant engine loom as K-jets don't have it. If you got that kit for £400 it would be a bargain, should be good for around 170bhp depending on how much boost you run I should think.

Rocco super, and as for the k-jet. Just crank up the fuel pressure a bit and slap on some bigger injectors (yeah old skool modding shanking yo mpg)

Clutch pulled through the bulkhead so had a repair plate put on...although its looking like that will be a temporary fix as the whole bulkhead moves when I dip the clutch so a big weld will be needed at some point. Although the clutch does feel like new now compared to before!

Also its idling too high which might be down to the ignition pulley timing being a notch out so I might give that a look at today - or adjust it through the dizzy??

No worries about all that though as I have my new grille
