Golf Mk2 280mm brake query
« on: 31 December 2008, 10:01 »
Hey folks,

Can anyone give me a definitive answer as Ive been chasing my tail somewhat...

I have a 8v 90spec gti which came with 239's; I have since bought a pair of 256 hubs which I have put on the car along with a set of g60 discs... Im now needing the calipers as well...

question is this... can i fit mk3 288 calipers or do I need specific g60 280mm ones?

Any wisdom or help would be greatly appreciated,

Gary

288`s have a different mounting location and as such wil not fit you need the g60 caliper as fitted to these models

mk3 gti, some passats, ibiza 2.0 gtis, corrado g60 - girling caliper 54mm piston (vw pn vw part number 357 615 123 & 357 615 124)

basially if your looking for 2nd hand calipers aim for early mk3 gtis, look out for girling 54 and the 2 indentations on the caliper knuckle, the carriers should also fit a mk2 16v hub

some early vr6 golfs had 280s and later changed to 288 - not sure if teh poverty spec gtis followed suit.

new calipers are about £50 each i am sure

calipers

oh and most fit a larger master cylinder to reduce the pedal travel as the calipers require a little more fluid to apply pressure

if your looking for new first port of call would be a dealer as rumor has it they supply exchanges at about £55 quid. i remember finding an online site selling them for 45 but cant remember which one.

ebay has a set supposedly from a 97 vr6 currently on a tenner ha
