Tyres
« on: 07 April 2014, 11:30 »
Is anyone in need of a tyre change yet? I've done 13k miles (mainly motorway) and I'm in need of a new set of front boots. I had Conti's. I thought I'd get more out of them than that. They must be a very soft compound.

Not a mk7 (mk6), but my conti 5 fronts needed changing at 13k. Iirc it's about average for them.

Is the wear even?

For mainly motorway running I would have expected more than that unless the wear was uneven...

Are you on the wear markers (i.e. at 1.6mm) or are you some way above?

I think 13k is probably about right. I did 8k on my last set of tyres before the car was swapped for my current one and they probably had about one third of the tread left. Mainly motorway driving but with some cross country blasts thrown in too.

Think i might go for Michelins when the time comes, thoughts people?

Michelin Pilot Sport 3. Buy when there's a fuel card promotion on and get them from Costco and you can effectively pay £100 a corner for what is an excellent all round tyre.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Or an alternative, and my personal favourite, for close to £80 a corner. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Vredestein/Ultrac-Sessanta.htm

The second wear marker in from the outer edge is at the limit.

I've got a puncture in my near side rear and when I've phoned to book it in vw don't have the black balancing weights. Total and utter s4ite from vw once again. Now after the repair I'll have shiny silver weights sticking out like a sore thumb. Very poor imo
