Post by: Steve30 on 02 January 2011, 14:03
Ive just noticed my brake disk's have got lip on them , the car's done 7k is this normal now? Both front and back more so the fronts?  :undecided:

I was just cleaning & waxing the alloys with colli and jetseal 109 come up brilliant, my fingers are hurting now

I wouldn't have thought it was a TDI/GTD specific issue  :lipsrsealed: but driving in Laaandon would probably involve a lot of accelerating and braking where as maybe if you commuted on motorways and dual carriageways it would be less so.
The more you brake the more the discs will wear obviously, and that's as far as I go with science.
I've had a few VWs where the front brakes have lasted until 70k but I've had others where they are nearly worn out at 40k, I've never owned one of them from absolutely factory fresh new so can't comment on how they were driven before I owned them, however I'm fairly gentle on brakes and haven't done trackdays for some years now.

Is Steve's car a DSG? Autos can be heavier on the brakes than manuals.

Just checked mine at circa 4000 miles I'd say I have a 2-3 micron lip

Mostly motorway miles to be fair.

VW discs are known in the trade to be soft and do this.
