Shouldn't it be called GT  :undecided:

Reported on some motoring websites, this is supposedly VW’s new GTI badge for the EV era; ‘GT’ plus a lightning bolt symbol

2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

GT and a lightning bolt is not GTi.  Not a good move from VW if this is true.  I'm a GTi fan, not a GT fan.

After all these years, it still blows my mind how many people think it's GTi not GTI  :nerd:

That's a good point JV.   I always write GTi but I don't know why.  Was it written like that on the Mk1 or Mk2?

I'm old enough to remember those and a slightly older friend had a white Mk1, whilst his brother had a black Mk2.  I only had a bus pass.

I'll try to get it right in future.  I prefer GTi to GTI because of the way it looks but I don't like to be wrong.   Cheers JV.    :smug:

I owned a number of fast Fords back in the early/mid 1980’s and Ford used a lower case ‘i’ in their performance model badging - e.g. XR3i, XR4i. I think Vauxhall did too with their GSi models.

VW have stated that the the “I” will stand for Intelligence on their EV GTI vehicles, to be honest though, the GTI name stands for many things, but essentially it represents an everyday sports hatch, and that’s what most people will think of when they see that badge on an EV.
