Questions/Queries
« on: 23 May 2022, 09:14 »
Hi

I haven’t been on here for time but now I’m back. I have got a mk7 R and its lush 2016 but I have a few questions/worries:

Its had a remap done before I owned it and seems luggish in Normal/Drive mode (Normal on radio and D on dash) when I am in 5th gear and not bombing its really sounds like it is chocking but use the flappies and knock it down to 4th and its fine again? However if I leave car on normal and change the dash to S it cures it? Which I don’t mind as it sounds louder but does it murder more fuel?

The exhaust almost sounds like something is rattling (when it isn’t moving or when I pull away in first gear to second then it sort of goes away that or I cant hear it due to how loud the car is naturally) like a coin when you have the must really loud in the doorwell? I have looked and the passenger rear side the exhaust tip to the right is the one playing up most or sound is coming from there? Ive attached a picture to show which one I mean as rubbish at explaining as you can tell!

Looked at the engine today and I swear I have a rubber cambelt not a chain? My reg is vk16dka and its done 54000 miles so slightly concerned.

That's not a standard exhaust so perhaps it has been fitted badly and is rattling on the bodywork. Why not get it checked over by a garage? Could be as simple as a bracket needing adjustment.

Definitely a chain. Google (so it must be right!..) says 2009 was the change from belt to chain.

It definitely has a cam chain, not a belt. I assume thats the serpentine belt you are looking at.

That's the serpentine (fan) belt, the timing chain is housed under the cam covers nexty to your yellow dipstick
