Title: Low speed mechanical rattle
Post by: Acegadget on 28 June 2021, 23:41
Noticed today in my CS that at low speed I get a mechanical rattle as if diff or gearbox sort of noise. As soon as I pick up the pace it goes.

Anyone else got this?

There’s definitely a thread or two on here where others have had similar issue at low speeds. Am sure one found an issue with a suspension boot being split. Not sure where it is though I’m afraid

Does it happen just once when you start off for the first time?

There is a thing where the steering pump pressurises and it sounds like the landing gear coming up as you take off.... happens about 30 seconds or less after you first drive...

There is a TPI about that, its not a fault.

No this is all the time so a low speed rattle when moving slowely.

Been to dealers and booked in for 22nd they reckon they have had a couple and it is suspension related.

Hi Acegadget, did you find out what this was?

My Clubsport has also developed a bit of a rattle / sound of play, coming from the front n/s, but only audible at low speeds, eg up to 10 mph.  If I push down on the n/s corner I can also hear a bit of squeak.  The handling seems to be unaffected and I haven't hit any potholes, so not sure what it is, presume something suspension related though.

Thanks

Booked in on 22nd so will keep you posted. The guy I spoke to immedietly said it was suspension and they had seen 3 others with it. They needed it for 2 days so they could check then order parts.
Will keep you posted once sorted

I seems to be getting a rapid tapping/clicking noise for the front n/s wheel/brake - it gets louder when pressing the brake, and only noticeable up to about 40 mph.
Not sure if that’s from the aerated discs?

Car is having top mounts replaced. Also new software on infotainment.
Will report back tomorrow on what it’s like after I have picked it back up

Number plate straightened on rear only 3mm out but still out

Thanks for the update.  Assume the  top mounts were replaced under warranty?  Seems an odd part to wear on what must be a near new car?

Mine was in on Monday, but was diagnosed with a suspension boot which was catching / stuck.  However pretty much as soon as I pulled away the same sound was still there.  Its difficult to describe, almost like what you would hear if you stacked two cereal bowls together and gently moved them around

I'll need to book it in again...

Good description. They tried to say they heard a squeek. I said no listen again.
I looked online and it seems quite a common one on Mk7/7.5's so reckon it has filtered down. If it does it aain I will upgrade them as I think VWR do a set

Stick to your guns on it and kick off. Must admit my dealer was very good and did everything on the list

With how I was dealt with I am wondering if VW has been trying to clear up its at on the service side. They used to be useless, 90% of problems I had with older cars used to come back no fault found until the part failed comepletly.
This was very slick with 3 updates while they had the car was actualy close to being to much

Yeah I know what you mean  with my first polo there was a hissing noise every time you stopped (like a lorry air brake releasing pressure) they basically called me a liar , made me feel terrible but after it kept doing it they fixed it even though they never told me exactly what they did  ( air con problem)  I did have to email there main office and copied my local dealer in to get it sorted. That was a different dealer  to what I’m using now mind
