Hello Everyone,
Been a member for a while now, so thought I might as well fire together how my car is progressing.
I had a 7.5 GTD for 2 years, enjoyed it but always missed a petrol engine, had been on the look for a while and my local dealer had one drop it from a trade in with great spec on it and most importantly it being a 3 door so I went for it.
Photos of it at the local forecourt

Finally got it home, beside my old GTD

Spec List over standard for the car includes:
Performance Pack
Climate Windscreen
7-Speed DSG (DQ381)
Vienna Leather
Panoramic Sunroof
Dynaudio Excite System
Discover Pro Radio
Rear Camera
19in Santiago Alloys
Firstly the most important bit I had carried out was a having a Front End Paint Protection Film applied to the Bumper, Bonnet, Arches, Headlights and Wing Mirrors as well as the rear boot lip beneath the boot lid was wrapped. As the car had maybe one or two stone chips when I got it, it was to protect it going forward as well as from shopping being dragged in and out of the boot.
Whilst it was in getting wrapped they also wrapped the roof gloss black to tie into the sunroof. They did a fantastic job on both.

Following on from this, the car came with aftermarket carpet mats in the car, not to my personal taste so I swapped them out with my old Weathertech Rubber Mats from the GTD.
(https://i.postimg.cc/4xXVmCXD/Screenshot-2021-04-24-at-19-20-54.png) (https://postimg.cc/mt6t55zj)
I then broke out the Rupes Bigfoot and corrected the paintwork followed by applying a ceramic coating to the paintwork and hydrophobic coating to the wrapped areas. During this my V750 came back and I could place my own registration plate on, but the internet doesn't need to see it. I also painted the Brake Disc Hubs and they were getting rusty, just a bit of Hammerite Smooth Silver as due to Brexit I can't currently get hold of POR15.

There was a few nice dry evenings and the salt was off the roads, so I took the Edition 30 out for a run out and got a picture of them together.

Currently I'm mulling over choosing some new alloys for the car, but thought I might as well try on my old BBS CI-R 19's (Et45 8.5J) from the GTD wrapped in Michelin PS4S's (225/35R19). Not too certain if I like the complete dark theme on the car so took them off and put the Santiago's back on and then swapped the Michelins onto the Santiagos as the Pirelli P-Zero's (Fairly new) just weren't cutting it for me.

(https://i.postimg.cc/dQktXYTw/IMG-5277.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/K4b2kCNH)
Recently fitted some Gloss Black Mirror Caps as well to tie into the Dark Theme.
(https://i.postimg.cc/7Ywdz14d/IMG-5513.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/YjDdKWhz)
I also got the rear three windows tinted up to the optional factory spec (90%).

Looking good . I personally like the combination of your BBS alloys on a TR GTI, but then we don’t all like the same things.
Your ED30 looks quite narrow compared to your mk7.5 GTI. I used to be able to get my mk5 Golf in my small single garage without too much trouble. I did try getting a mk7 in there when I had one as a courtesy car but it was quite a tight squeeze!

If we all liked the same thing the road would be very boring  I just think in Satin Black they look a bit severe, if I didn't lose all the small BBS badge details I'd just refurb them satin platinum (OB5).
It is quite a bit narrower, I think it's just the wingspan of the wing mirrors make it appear so though. But we all get a bit fatter as we grow up

A lovely set of Revos in satin bronze

Broke out the laptop and Hex-V2 VCDs cable and changed the throttle response from time based and to direct input, to help the throttle responsiveness.

I always loved the Revo Alloys and was very close to buying the bronze for the old GTD, but thought I'd need to lower it for it to work, as I take the car onto construction sites I can't lower the car. (clipped the front canard on the lower bumper of the GTD previously )

Small update - Fixed a rattle in the passenger door card today as it was more effort to take it to Volkswagen to get sorted. But I'll be trying to get the Dynaudio A-Pillar replaced under warranty as the speaker sounds on it's way out.
-
My T-Roc Pretorias arrived today along with the clubsport centre caps, so I'll be ceramic coating them and then putting them on.
I went with the clubsport centre caps as I thought it would tie the alloys into the red of the car better since they are a matt grey colour.

It's strange they didn't add it to your Clubsport, I was hmming and Ha'ing over whether to buy the cover or not, glad I did though helps tidy it up.

Hi, new to the forum. I have 2x 7.5 GTI's and wondered if you have the part number for the manifold cover that you added.
Thanks.
David.

I think the part numbers are -
Inlet Manifold Cover (06K103925AA)
Ball Stud (06E103164)
Maybe when Willni sees this he'll confirm them??

Update - Got a nice set of Belvedere alloys for winter. Swapped off the Bridgestone S001's they came with for my Goodyear UltraGrip's, then gave them a good clean as there was A LOT of imbedded brake dust on the alloys.
Then I coated them with Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour to make it that bit easier to look after. Also aligned all the centre caps with the air valve for OCD fun.

Been a busy weekend in the parish, decided I hated the silver disc hubs and stripped them right back and painted them satin black, then I fitted the Belvedere winter alloys after I coated them in Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour. Then I gave it a good clean as it's due it's service this week as it's about to hit 6k miles since the last one.

Nothing too exciting.
Minor service back on December at 10.3k miles, and today had the VAQ diff serviced (every 3 years) at now 10.8k miles

How much did the steering wheel refurb set you back if you don't mind me asking? Also, how is it holding up.

It was £175 + Postage, but just remember materials have gone up with covid so prices could have increased.
With regard to holding up, it's still like brand new. In my opinion it is one of the best things you can do to make the car feel brand new again.
-
Picked up these Brescia alloys from my local Volkswagen dealer today, toyed with the idea of getting replicas but I'd rather spend the extra and have the real thing.

Thanks  There's not really a whole lot I've done to mine, I just like keeping it nice and putting a few tasty but subtle changes to set it apart.
-
No spectacular changes just put on the 12 & 15mm spacers from Watfields Ltd (PCD Parts) which were very good quality aluminium with a slight touch of grease for future removal. Also to the great disgust to many of the English members here, I've put the mudflaps back on the car.

Prets are too R looking, which isn't a good thing imo too many of them!

Yep 12 & 15mm in black from Watfields/PCD Parts
Really like the way it looks in summer mode
Thanks! This is so far my favourite look as I was having trouble moving on from my GTD's look which couldn't transfer over.

This arrived today: Remus centre resonator delete with sport back box with titanium and carbon fibre tips.

Didn't have time for a before and the after is quick subtle on video but it's sporty but smart still, with zero drone. But other than the remus exhaust Audi S3 jack point kit fitted, did underneath the rear suspension with Dynax and gave it a quick clean (pictures to come).
Also refitted my Blackvue front dashcam with magic pro box, fully hidden out of my sight so I don't even know it's there.
Ordered some other bits that were discounted by 50% as well and I'm planning on getting something else next month to help set the car off, prior to something else I'm keeping secret but it's not a modification just something nice.

Easy to fit? It's hard to tell if mine are on in the daylight. I only noticed recently when i stopped in a layby for a cheeky smoke and left the indicator on, i had to get quite close to see it sweeping!

This was my 2nd time doing this mod so I'm a bit more familiar with it, but it takes no more than 15 minutes a side.
You'll need a small torx set eg https://www.halfords.com/tools/hand-tools/all-hand-tools/halfords-advanced-precision-torx-screwdriver-set-926428.html?_gl=1*1fo9eaw*_up*MQ..&gclid=Cj0KCQjwuaiXBhCCARIsAKZLt3kY8L04vh9Eq3s8e0ggNFIHI6uaOYSO1ZE4Pwdjz2tlTlbzoj6d-kQaAgpMEALw_wcB (https://www.halfords.com/tools/hand-tools/all-hand-tools/halfords-advanced-precision-torx-screwdriver-set-926428.html?_gl=1*1fo9eaw*_up*MQ..&gclid=Cj0KCQjwuaiXBhCCARIsAKZLt3kY8L04vh9Eq3s8e0ggNFIHI6uaOYSO1ZE4Pwdjz2tlTlbzoj6d-kQaAgpMEALw_wcB)
A pair of pliers to help get the corroded mirror heater wires off and a trim removal tool, then just take it slowly, also ideally a small magnetic grabber and it's easy to drop the screws into the mirror housing, i got mine back with needle nose pliers.

Cars looking fantastic m8, dare I ask what’s next ? I’m looking to do a few engine bay upgrades soon, I like the look of that manifold cover.

At this stage the next in the line up is a wash as I haven't had the chance to do it as I've been ceramic coating cars the past while so want it done before the next run of them and I'll need a new set of Pilot Sports 4S's in the near future and I hope to finally get round to ceramic coating the front end PPF on mine.
Modification wise probably nothing, I'd like to say I'd go down the route of chasing more power but I'm happy with it standard. I will upgrade the front discs to the T-Roc R discs when the time comes to lower the unsprung weight slightly, but that's a while of when it's sitting at 16k miles.
I'll be focusing on a garage build here in the near future so it's easier to keep things standard
Anything in mind for yours? The Revo carbon series would fairly tart it up but I the Racingline R600 definitely looks the part now they offer carbon as well.
How are you finding the Revo stage 1 map?
-
The maps been money well spent, as far as I can tell with my limited experience it totally transformed the car, much more punch and more progressive. It also sounds fantastic in sports mode with the over run.I chose Revo over APR as I’d seen a few ppl say the APR is a more aggressive tune. But everyone has a different opinion when it comes to mapping. My only regret is it is impossible to put the full power down from start as the wheels spin up like crazy. As far as next for me, I’ve a turbo elbow, silicone hose, K&N filter and that engine manifold in my Awesome GTI basket which I am trying to resist ordering for a while. Rear pads, discs and MOT this month so I’m waiting for that.
-
Also tried having a go with some detailing tape, after a few tries finally found using a heat gun was the answer to it not peeling off.

Revo would be the one I'd go for myself as well, I prefer safety over big numbers. It's a high power fwd car it's to be expected a dogbone mount might help put it down. I was driving back from Newcastle last night and got a fairly nice run to open it up a little, makes you appreciate these cars a lot more.
Usually the 6th month mark the basket gets ordered for me hahaha. You did well to actually get an mot, I know plenty of people driving with 6 months out of mot and no tax.
I don't think I could do the detailing tape it would always mess with my head if it wasn't 100% perfect, spent an hour the other day moving the exhaust tips on mine to make sure they were poking out the same

Not heard of this, how much of change in response is there? Any changes in driving characteristics in traffic/start stop etc?

After one trip to the shop for milk I'm sure mine looks the same, just that time of year trying to fight the salt.

No great measure for it, just takes away the 3 second timer (I think it was 3 secs can't remember) before changing throttle inputs, just makes it nicer to drive aka more like a manual gearbox throttle

So I did this the other day, I don't know if it's a placebo effect, but it feels like there's been a change and I like it! Thanks!!

At the time I bought them they were half the price of the Sevillas (€1,600) I wanted! luckily the prices have now swapped thanks to the TCR and Clubsport owners realising how lightweight they were versus the 19s.
I had planned on selling them for a set of BBS CI-R's again but the seller flaked so they're still here  Might refurb them a solid anthracite grey or dark chrome, when the white worming happens but no signs of it yet so we're all good
-
Half the Price!! Wow
I guess most wanted the clubsport with 19's and cup 2's, and never gave the 18" belvederes a second look. I contacted the manufacturer fuchsfelge in Germany originally but they couldn't get any for me. So I just bought some from Kunzmann in Germany recently as I couldn't find any. They really aren't cheap anymore especially with import tax on top, but I do like them.
Your early thread pics help me to decide so thanks for that

I don't think I want to know what they would've cost from Kunzmann, luckily I'm NI so we still don't have EU import taxes but it's needed as many places in the UK actually don't ship many things over here now...like a coat.
You're welcome that's what it's here for

Forgot to update this, 4 new Pilot Sports 4S' in the correct 225/35R19 size, a good clean front and back on the Poka Premium Wheel Stand followed by a polish to the faces as the tyre shop scratched them, but the rotary got them out. Gave them a depth read too out of curiosity and they measured 160um which is very thick lacquer which I was pleasant surprised about so should help fight white worm a bit better.

If your car is still in warranty I'd chance the arm in for a refurb or a new set, I know a few people that got a new set.
Despite that I only run mine in Summer, when my clear coat finally goes I'll be getting mine refinish in Cerakote clear coat ( https://www.cerakote.co.uk ) you can hit it with a spanner or hammer and it doesn't come off so thinking this will be better for longevity.
-
Tried that when they first started worming; the dealer asked about a claim but never heard back from VW, or so I was told. Never mind.

I never knew that Cerakote was available as clear. I have it on two of my rifles and it’s a super rock hard finish. I remember asking the Gunsmith that customised one of the rifles about a gloss Cerakote and he said it’s not a high gloss (I just went with satin) but other providers may have other options, defo worth looking into.

My wheel refurbishers are the ones selling cerakote over here so it'll be a bit easier for me, they have done a couple of sets of wheels and a lot of misc parts in it. But yeah I think it's fairly new the clear.

It’s amazing stuff IMO

Perfect,
Different enough without being too much. Is it just 3m red tape on the underside?

Those were my thoughts as well, look much better in person. Yes just 3M, two large pieces at the ends then two long going across you pull when happy with it’s position.

Looks great Will and thankfully no expiry date on it so you know it won’t go mouldy after a few weeks!!
(Unlike that pineapple everybody gets for their fruit bowl at Xmas that never actually gets eaten)

Thanks men, I'm sure I'll be able to tackle corners much harder now with it or at least VW would lead you to believe.

New Rear brake pads fitted today and forgot to tell not to wash it, luckily their cleaner refused to touch it as it was sitting too mint

It was the only car that wasn't black or navy when I picked it up. It made finding it easy at least.

That's what I loved about my TR GTI. Looked great amongst a sea of bland. White does stand out but doesn't glow like TR.

At this time of year a clean car that's had a bit of wax etc really stands out no matter the colour, well at least for 2 days it does.

Mines filthy after a 400 mile round trip on the motorway over the weekend. Benefit of waxing it after every weekly / fortnightly wash is that it makes cleaning it a lot easier.
-
Finally gave it a proper clean inside, as it approaches 22k miles as you can see I am a fatality to the saggy mk7 leather. Also service number 5 is coming at the end of the month

I'm assuming this is a Remus catback or muffler? These tips are exactly the look I would want if I were to change
-
Yep Remus GPF-Back same principle as a catback but for cars with a GPF filter. I'd personally be keen to get the chrome ones now, but red needs the chrome to brighten it up a bit imo.
There's also gloss black which if I had a white car I'd go for.
-
Yeah gloss black would probably be good on my white silver. I am more looking at the angled, double-wall style. Looks awesome

Replaced my petrol cap surround as after 2 years and numerous products from APC to a bit of light acid, I admitted defeat to the dirt that was imbedded into the surround. I believe it was just dried petrol though.
Sticker still to come...

Just posting some updates.
Serviced at 28k miles with brake fluid changed
Replaced the coil packs on cylinders 3 & 4 as I had a very slight misfire, only noticed due to mpg dropping
Fixed some rust on the rear psg quarter and tided up the underneath as well
Carried out a full paint correction and finished it with Gyeon Syncro Evo ceramic coating in October
New wiper blades
Fitted RGM Automotive door sill protectors
Hit 30k miles
Next plans:
Remove the carbon exhaust tips for chrome ones
Remove the front wiper arms and respray them
Acquire another set of belvedere alloys or standard 18s
