I remember going to the Club GTI meets when Velly first had the carbs fitted.

He took someone out in his cab up the duel carriageway and you could still hear him a couple of miles away  It sounded like a low flying aircraft in the area

it depends on wot u want to do.

it then cost me about 500 quid to put the carbs on and all the extra bits like fuel pump etc and tuning.
but i have a 16v lump in mine

I just think the forum is really missing a thread on stages to tune your mk1 and the power increases you'll get.

Ive got no idea how much a 16v lump would cost, cost to install and then how much power i would expect :embarassed:

1.8 KR 16v lump + gear box £250ish
you will need a 16v wiring conversion (from TSR) about £120
4 branch manifold £200 (TSR again)
(you may meed things like uprated mounts and a few other little things)
then all you need is for someone to fit it

power should be about 145 bhp-ish

If you wanted to spend a bit extra power the go for a 2.0 16v but u will pic up just the engine for about 300 quid

hope this helps

err...i think the pics can do the talking

8v

16v

and if you added carbs to a 16v

For the record, i paid £430 full comp, protected n/c's and all mods inc 16v on carbs, LSD, 8" RM's etc

ok, so im 31 but still cheap IMO

Its very tempting. I could have it done while im away in America for two months in the summer

Would the person fitting it encounter many problems getting it to run smoothly? Just need to find someone to theoretically to fit it all.. paid of course
