VCDS lead?
Genuine or copy?

The Mk4 wasn't CAN-Bus, so although you may be able to read certain values, unless it's a CAN-Bus compatible cable, you'll not be able to change anything.
If it's a CAN-Bus compatible lead, you may be lucky.

All I know is its a few yrs old off eBay about 18 pound and some guy on here gave me the program?

It's unlikely to work.

Try it at your own risk...it carries the usual risks associated with copy cables.
