I dont think it's thats rare, VW did put the 2h engine on the cabs in later years for the US and European market.  In fact the cab has had quite a few variants in it's life.  What year is your car?  I found this which goes into a lot detail on this: http://www.cabby-info.com/engine.htm

92.....

Thanks for the link :-)

2h aye? it isn't a red cabriolet by any chance is it?

Dinx

Yeah, Red, why?
Because I only know of 1 other 2h engine in the uk other than mine and it belonged to a guy off the mk1 owners forum - can't remember his name but he was kind enough to copy his manual for these engines onto disc for me
Unless you are actually in Marbella..then it may be a different one

I also have a mk1 cab with 2H engine, I imported it about 10 years ago and only knew of one other at the time so there must be a few more by now.

Crikey, where do I start!!
Bought it in 1999 with 66000km on the clock and it's been a project ever since.
Engine was excellent, really reliable, i used to do 250 miles every weekend and really ragged it. Never had a problem.
I changed the rear brakes for mk2 16v discs and calipers, changed the wheels for 17s and left it like that for a while.
Only real breakdown i had was a diff rivet broke and smashed the gearbox casing. Swapped it for a mk2 gearbox and then did a turbo conversion so that 'box didn't last long either! Settled for a mk2 diesel gearbox now. Changed suspension for AVO coilovers with adjustable shocks and did a 285mm upgrade on the front brakes. Swapped the mk2 rear calipers for mk4 ones a couple of years ago as they had seized. Finally got round to changing the ECU for a G60 and now it's pretty much just a standard body shell (flushed boot lid) with every major part changed! Apart from the engine bottom end, still the original 2H, now with over 220000km on it.  It's currently off the road getting a new front panel as the front cross-member had cracked at both ends.
It's been shown at the usual events, I just need to figure out how to put pictures on here.

I'll try the photos;

This one was taken back in 2006.

<a href="http://s936.photobucket.com/albums/ad207/K3VWT/?action=view&current=DSC02370.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad207/K3VWT/DSC02370.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I'd had the turbo conversion for about a year at this point and had already shredded the gearbox. Changed to the diesel 'box, worked great with the new ratios but was a bit of a pain with the speedo.

After a bit of an underbonnet clean-up

<a href="http://s936.photobucket.com/albums/ad207/K3VWT/?action=view&current=DSC02440.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad207/K3VWT/DSC02440.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

No guts no glory!  Finally built up the courage to cut up the wiring loom.

July 2007 in malvern for BVF

<a href="http://s936.photobucket.com/albums/ad207/K3VWT/?action=view&current=DSC03275.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad207/K3VWT/DSC03275.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s936.photobucket.com/albums/ad207/K3VWT/?action=view&current=DSC03282.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad207/K3VWT/DSC03282.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Only problem i've had with the wiring was a fault with the oil pressure buzzer.
Still LHD, not worth changing it, I also prefer it.
17s have not been too bad, needed some arch work but fit quite well. Thinking about going back to 15s though.

You have it looking smart darl

Arch work? just rolled?..assuming the drop on suspension with them wheels on isn't too great as without arch work mine grinded on the back with about 30mm drop when going round a roundabout

You find any problems with the steering rack?

It's a mk2 diesel gearbox, i'll have to check the code. I tried it with the original speedo cable and it was quite a way out. It had the red z=15 drive gear on so i swapped it for the natural z=16 gear. It improved it but it still reads about 10% faster. I've just got used to it. I checked out all the available gearboxes and all the possible engines in the golf range from 1974 mk1 up to '92 mk2 and 2007 SA mk1, they all use the red & natural drive gears. If anyone has any ideas it would be good to finally get it to read accurately.

It took me a long time to get the wheel/suspension set-up right.
The arch work was; arch trims removed, arch liners removed and the arch lip cut back flush, then stuck the arch trims back on. With an offset of 38 and 205/40/17s. It was a bit of trial and error on the height/camber adjustment but i finally got it right. No matter how fast you go through a corner, even with 4 people in it doesn't rub on the arches at all. I've taken it on the track for real road test and it's spot on. The suspension was set very hard and I had the camber set at about -1.5degrees. The height was set slightly higher on the left than the right as it was better for roundabouts.
Never had any problems with the steering rack, just the standard power steering with the reservior relocated.

As you can see, there is plenty of clearance on the back.

Front and rear wheels sit quite narrow in the arches.
