16v conversion running issues
« on: 28 February 2009, 15:33 »
Hi guys, seem to have suffered a long time with poor tick over, random stalling when coming to a halt. I have no air leaks at all and the car runs sweet when driving. I understand that some 16v's have the idle stabilisation valve and some don't ? I do not have one, all the outlets from the air box are capped off. I can only put these probs down to some sort of vacum issue, can any one shed some more light on these issues ? and are they common on my type of conversion, its been to 2 local garages with no success. Hope some one can help its getting a bit of a pain now

all 16vs have an idle stablisation system, this is why yours stalls and the idle is uneven. you can raise the idle up a bit and put up with it, or fit the isv control unit and parts :)

behind the centre console on a 16v you find the isv control unit, bouut the size of a packet of fags.  Follow the loom from this and it runs to 2 white plugs just behind the fusebox, plus a black wire to the fusebox itself (ign live)
Pull this bit out then you need to grab the 2 white plugs and remove these from the donor loom, these run to:
temp sensor
red/black wire to spade hanging off coil plug (rev counter)
over-run cutoff valve behind airbox
idle switch
earth on cylinder head
isv

I have a complete 16v engine mangment wiring diagram if you want it

mines doing the same, i replaced the ISV and its still the same, RK engineering did my timing and set the idle higher (turning the screw on your throttle body to the left) , he did it when the engine was hot so it doesnt cut out at junctions but its a b!tch to keep at idle in the morning so i sugjest doin it when its cold! the problem only developed in mine when i changed from a 40mm inlet to a 50mm, only thing i havnt done yet is change the gaskets! let me know how it goes as i have a freind who's having the same issue!

does the isv buzz when ign on? is there a second red/black wire to the coil with a spade terminal in it?
