I want to buy a Sat nav for my Golf and have been looking on ebay as well as other places.

I found this on ebay:

and

BIG difference is that a real RNS has a hard-drive to store everything on.

I looked at these (as well as the RNS), and am still going for a 3rd party device (Pioneer).

ETTO, I suppose. Depends what you want from the device.

Either way, it CAN'T sound as sh1te as the RCD300  so you're on a winner at that price.

Ah, I didn't spot it missing the 30gb HDD.

Which Pioneer system are you going for?

The only thing that floats my boat is the F900bt, or the 4100DVD (no satnav)

Both are good machines (now  ) - Vers 3 firmware has transformed the F900.

Of course, the Kenwood and Alpine stuff is good, just not my cup of tea. Always liked the Pioneer stuff. All IMHO

Bear in mind that with the RNS copy, you could always stick on a USB HD....

I was actually thinking of that as an option, but to get a unit at a decent price I would have to buy from someone in Honk Kong, still works out at least £350. Probs not worth the hassle, may aswell just go with a genuine one for £500.

Do you know the main differences for version B and C and firmware's 1100 and 2600 for the RNS510?

Sorry mate, can't help as I don't know that much about the RNS versions (once I'd decided that I was going aftermarket, I stopped any further investigation)

Have you signed up for www.mk5golfgti.co.uk ?
If not, sign up (put me as the referrer  ), and look in the satnav section........ LOADS of great info.....
