If it really is the camera, I'm flabbergasted to be honest. OK, so if they underestimated demand due to people no longer needing to pay for a larger NAV screen to get the camera, how many camera units would that really constitute? It's still not available to select on the configurator, been about a month, right? It's just a camera with a motor to open the badge and some wiring...really shouldn't be that hard to get a few hundred made up.
They said only new orders from July are affected. Some guessing now:
1) They realise demand is higher than max supply.
2) They calculate when they will run out: July.
3) They assure customers who ordered before July that no delays will result.
4) GTI orders from April-June should be covered, but for some reason no cameras are set aside.
5) Additional delays for GTI with camera.
And if the above is close to the truth I think they'd be reluctant to admit it because they had three months of time to set aside cameras for those orders and if they somehow failed to do so that is a super fcuk up. If they admitted this I would be immediately asking what compensation they are offering for causing an unnecessary delay on top of the already unacceptable delays, and I'm suspicious they are playing dumb to avoid getting 50, 100, 200 or more people calling to ask the same thing. After all its clearly not the only delay, the GTI is delayed anyway... so all they have to do is prevaricate about "could be many reasons" and they can avoid admitting a mistake.
If I were you boys I'd tell them to knock it off - honestly, its not worth this hassle IMO!
But they won't admit it is a cause of delays so how can we? Last week I asked repeatedly if the camera was causing a delay and was assured it was not. If they said it was I would ask:
1) Will taking it off enable a faster build?
2) Can you retro fit later?
But as long as they peddle this line about "unknown reasons" we can't do anything!
