What Coil Packs?

So another coil pack has gone in my car, slight misfire and mpg reduced by 8mpg. So wondering if the aftermarket coil packs are any better as I know the VW one's hate being removed when doing spark plugs.

Hoping someone has some experience with this on OEM vs the likes of APR / Racingline or Audi upgrades?

A bit of dielectric/silicone grease in the plug boots helps when removing, especially if the engine is warm.

If the coil pack detaches from the rubber boot a quick squirt of WD40 down the boot and a quick blast of compressed air normally shoots the boot off.

The boots are available to buy separately.

I can't see how the "upgraded" coil packs can be any better than OEM IMO. Snake oil??

They can be an absolute pain at times to remove though.

Touch wood I have yet to encounter the issues you've had, just coils going.

Upgraded coils are most likely snake oil but in Black Friday they're a good bit cheaper than OEM ones, was more looking at durability than an actual upgrade.

I was told that they they should be changed in sets due to electric transfer but seems unnecessary in my opinion, but hoping someone could confirm or debunk this?

That was out my daughters Polo BlueGT.

I suppose good practice is to replace as a set, but you give the option to customers 1 for £40 or the set for £160 you can bet the majority just have just the faulty one replaced.
