How Regularly Do You Change Your Oil?
« on: 28 October 2021, 15:44 »
Out of curiosity I want to see how many people stick to VW's word that synthetic oil stays good for extended miles/time, or who believes fresh oil reduces stress on the engine internals.

I'm every 6k miles or 1 Year which ever is first and yes I've had 3-4 oil changes in a year before.

If you want an option added let me know, I've just added the most common for now.

Whenever the car tells me it needs changing. Modern synthetic oils mean that it doesn't need changing prematurely any more.

I am set up for once a year or 15,000km. I usually change it every 12,000km (myself) with good quality oil and oem filter. Always a bottom drain.

Oil is a car's lifeblood. Every year for me and I'm only doing about 4k miles per annum.

Every 6 months with oem filter - annual service and interim by me. Do about 8k miles annually.

I don’t like to spend money on servicing so just change my car instead.

Anyway, it’s annually for me. Servicing that is.

If you want an option added let me know, I've just added the most common for now.

You need to add a 6 month option for me, main dealer service once a year and REVO dealer oil n filter 6 months in between.

I only do about 6k a year but it is tuned so peace of mind for me.

I think both these statements are true- modern oils degrade only very slowly over time, but fresh oil is better.

I do around 7k annually in the golf- an annual service is sufficient imo.

So what should you do with an older engine doing low mileage and with modern oils? I will be doing my 3rd oil change in 2 years and 5k miles in my 32 year old Pug.

Probably too much, but it makes me feel good!
