Ordering new MK7
« on: 12 May 2016, 20:14 »
Hi guys,

I was asking for advice in general chat, but wanted to ask you guys in the MK7 section.

I was looking at a second hand MK7 GTI, around £18-£19k. however I see Drive the Deal have an offer at the moment, brand new GTI for £23,391 on finance, or £2k more cash. Thats no options, just met paint.

I don't really need any options (bar met paint) and I see the 2016 car has NAV and keyless start, which the 2013 cars don't, and I'd obviously benefit from a brand new car and 3 years warranty of course.

According to reading a few forums, I read that its possible to cancel the finance and pay the outstanding balance within 14 days, thus saving £2k you would of paid if paying cash.

Obviously it is more of an outlay up front, but I think it might be better in the long run.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can get the finance to get the contribution and then cancel and pay it off cash and you get to keep the contribution.

With the deals that VW have at the moment I would never buy a 1-3 year old one.

Agreed.  In fact, that's what I've just done!  For those asking "is it OK to pay it off?"....yes, you just call VW Finance as soon as possible after taking delivery (but within 14 days of signing the agreement), and transfer the money to their bank account.  They charged me £2.88 per day interest.  Job done.  Dealer didn't seem bothered, you don't have to repay the £2,000 VW contribution.

Thanks for the advice!

Question, is the climate windscreen worth having, I know its an old discussion, but because of the need for phone prep, it adds up!

I have climate windscreen on my current Gti and have opted for it again on the R I have ordered.  It works really well. Especially on those days where it's too cold outside for the AC to work yet the car steams up. It comes on automatically too when needed.  In addition it melts an iced up screen pretty fast too.
You do have to select the advanced phone connection too if you have the climate screen. It does boost the phone signal a fair bit.
