In need of another MK5
« on: 18 March 2016, 12:48 »
Hi all,

I'm in the process of looking for another MK5, needs to diesel as the mileage I'm doing warrants it, and GT spec, I had a 05 Laser Blue GT TDI up until I traded it in for a '10' A4 in 2014, I've regretted that decision since and I am in the process of selling it, the Golf I have before was the 140bhp one, and I found it to be capable, I really did love that car.

Now, I'd like a 170 this time, I have around 3.5-4k and as long as the service history is there, maybe up to 120k miles, 3dr, in either Black or Red, although this isn't a deal breaker, is the 170 as good an engine as the 140? I know the turbos aren't great on the 140s, mine was whistling for fun, it always did it though and never caused me any bother, I think that's why I traded it in, just in case it went on me.

MPG? I was getting average 54-56 on my weekly commute to work and back, 72mile round trip 5 days a week, will I get something like this on the 170? my A4 (10 plate 143bhp) gets low 40s...42-44.

I've had 4-5 GT TDI 170s in the past and loved them. Apart from the usual issues (failing DMF etc) you need to make sure the DPF isn't screwed,

My last one when it was taken back to standard before selling.

That's lovely! I'm having a good look to see what's out there, they seems to be a lot of 'chavved' ones, gti r32 reps..I'm prefably after a 3dr with leather...but we'll see

Does it have to be a Golf??

A3's in S Line flavour have half leather as standard; most upgraded to full. Might be easier to find

Hmmm, I have looked at A3, it would need to be 3dr, and s line. I like the look of the Golf better, but it's something to think on about
