Very nice Gryzor, almost my twin!

Are the mats noticeably better quality than the standard ones? I find that the standard mats wear fairly quickly, the heel area in mine is wearing a bit already!

They are Continental SportContact 2, a brand I've been using for a long time now and have had good experience with in terms of wear and all-round performance.  Was very happy to find those on!

Thanks Joe!  Yeah I just took one out to compare - the luxury ones are thicker, with a deeper, denser pile that also feels softer too.  I had them thrown in free, and pleased I did!

Can't really avoid the heel wear with either carpet or rubber mats. The luxury ones look worse for it on my Scirocco because the carpet pile is so much thicker - it is really noticeable when it all gets flattened out prior to real wear. Putting rubber mats in the front of mine, the generous lip around the perimeter keeps all the stones etc in one place for easy hoover out.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

For the time it takes them to actually wear out look shabby, I'd rather spend the cash on a new set of carpet mats than put rubber matts in.  I can't deny the rubber ones are more durable and easier to clean, but a quick vacuum out once a week keeps my carpet ones looking OK.

So guys, I took delivery of my new baby this morning, and what a beauty she is!  Took a few snaps with my phone, sorry for the not-so-great quality, but at the end of the day, it's a Pure White 5 door GTI that we all know and love!  I also took a shot of the luxury mats for those who may be undecided - they suit the interior perfectly well, with only minimal white edging around them.  I also have the original mats too as spares.

So I guess I'll start off with what I didn't like...which isn't much!
  • Mirrors unfold on turning on the ignition, and fold in upon locking the door. Quite why they couldn't have them fold and unfold based on the status of the door is a mystery, but at least you can glance at the mirrors to see the car is locked (assuming you don't go back to the car later, open it, then forget to lock it).
  • Having to wear the seatbelt to release the eBrake is a bit of a pain
So far, those are the only negatives.  Pretty much everything else just blew me away.  First thing I noticed was just how smooth and effortless it was to drive, even relative to my Mk5, such a big step-up for me in this regard.  I've done about 100 miles already ranging from city stop-start to 50 miles of motorway, and didn't really push the revs much past 4000, but you can really feel the grunt under the hood.  At low speeds you can still hear how throaty the engine is, but it's refined at the same time.  Put your foot down and she roars away, very impressive, and without doubt, THE best car I have driven in years.  There are so many superlatives I can throw its way, it's almost pointless!  But, I will go through a few honourable mentions and maybe clarify some things for people (in no particular order):
  • Keyless is absolutely fantastic.  Some may see it as a gimmick, but let's not get into that old endlesss cycle.  To just walk up to the car, open the door, push the button and go is, for me, a new level of luxury!
  • eBrake and auto-hold.  I thought I'd be forever grasping for a non-existent handbrake lever, and I was fearful of the auto-hold not letting go and resulting in a jerky start.  Wrong on both!  I soon got used to it, and the whole system just works...brilliantly.
  • For those who have opted to get the heated screen, a couple of things.  Firstly, there is no physical button - you press setup on the climate and a soft-button appears on screen.  Secondly, for those with iPhones, you need not panic.  It puts the "Advanced Phone Prep" to waste (as we kinda' knew) but, iPhone connects just fine over Hands Free Protocol, contacts all sync up, voice calls are crystal clear, and music streaming works a treat.
  • If you are not sure about spending the extra on Dynaudio, I found the standard setup to be more than adequate.  It goes loud, has plenty of bass if you want it, and is quite well adjustable.  As I've said before, I don't like masses of bass or volume, so it really suits me, but just wanted to say first hand, the standard audio is great.
  • Yes it had the reverse camera fitted, and yes it did feel a bit odd reversing without turning around!  To be fair, I can't ever see me stopping using my own neck and wing mirrors to reverse, but as a check to see before you move, and to gauge the final position, the camera is a great addition.
  • The rear LED lights are just the nuts!  I've had people pointing at the rear of the car in traffic, they are that good.
  • When using the nav, the combination of fantastic voice directions with road and place names, and the seamless integration with the MFD means that the media screen is almost redundant.  Makes my old TomTom seem, well, very old indeed!
  • On the SD card I have over 20GB of music in hundreds of folders.  It is still blisteringly quick to load and seek.  With embedded album art of 320x320, I had no problems at all with artwork displaying.
  • Adaptive Chasis Control is absolutely THE best option on the car.  On the motorway, I switched between Sport, Normal, and Comfort.  In Sport, you could feel every bump, great for when you need that level of feedback.  In Normal, you still had feedback through the wheels, but less prominent.  In Comfort, you feel a distinct change in the refinement.  Down my street there are some paved raised areas.  Again, running through the different modes, in sport you really felt them through the chasis.  In comfot, they were less intrusive than they are on my mates very comfy Ford Focus.  This alone almost made the car everything I hoped it would be, and more.
So there you go guys, relatively short and sweet in the scheme of things!  Did it exceed my expectations?  Yes.  Was it worth the wait?  Hell yes!  I am absolutely convinced that if you have ordered one, you will be over the moon when you get it.  Some maybe less so that others as the Mk6 was obviously a good car too, but as an upgrade to the Mk5 I felt right at home straight away, yet it was also in a league of it's own.

Very, very happy indeed, and I can't wait for you guys to all get yours and hear all about your first experiences!

Like said we have seen a few now and they all look the same but personally do not think you can ever see enough of this car given how great it looks and yours still gave the wow factor on seeing it :)

Couple of review points were good to read and one had me thinking as to why also?

So why are the mirrors being manually opened? Maybe this is that you sometimes go to the car to fetch something, or load something and with no intention of driving away and to have the mirrors going up and down as you do would be a pain? - however times that would occur would be rare really and to have open on unlock should be a 'choice'

ACC - was a big choice for me as my present experience has really worn on me with S Line suspension and UK roads. So do I trust the standard suspension or option ACC? The fact it is not just by choice of settings but offers active adjustment also, swayed me and from your comments my aim would be met

SAT NAV - was hoping what you describe would be the exact experience
Auto Brake - Had some trepidation on this and likely still will till experience it in full but do feel a little more comforted by comments
Dynaudio - Was pretty certain that not selecting was correct choice and nice to know the standard set up is felt as being pretty decent in own right.

But good to see another long term member get his car and sure the wait is now fully worth it each and every time get into :)

@Gryzor Wahoo! So, so nice mate! That's exactly how mine will look when the day comes. Can't wait to use the keyless entry on a day-to-day basis.

What's this Richbrook Tax Disc holder look like. Link?

Cheers bud, and yup, that's exactly what yours will look like, absolutely stunning.  Gives me exactly the same smiles and thrills as with my Mk5, just more of them!  Keyless is just brilliant.

These tax disc holders just tastefully finish off the car nicely, and look way nicer than a piece of plastic dealer crap;

Edit: shop around, you can get them for around £15 I think

For a tax disc holder that “lasts forever”, how much do you have to think about the colour? Do you play it safe and go black or silver (that should suit any car colour) or do you go for the colour of your current car? Have my eye on a red one, but seen them a bit cheaper elsewhere, mainly through Amazon sellers. Cheapest anodised red one, inc delivery for the twist off version is £13.27:-

Not sure whether anodised red looks a bit pink or whether it is just the photo. It is easy enough to anodise in a bold red.

Very true, the look of the car never grows old!

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear.  It's not the mirrors themselves being manually opened.  When you get out of the car and touch the handle to lock it, the mirrors fold in.  Great, it means you can glance at the mirrors to check the car is locked.  However, let's say I left something in the car, so I go back to get it.  I put my hand behind the handle to open the door, but the mirrors remain folded.  I could shut the door and just walk away, and the folded mirrors would indicate the car is locked, but this time it isn't.  Really not a big deal, and just a discipline to check it's locked by testing the rear handle that do not have the keyless sensor.

As for ACC, well... If it's true that standard suspension is more like sport in ACC, then I for one am glad I specced it.  Is not that it's unbearable, but having lived with quite firm suspension for 8 years in my Mk5, it's so nice to have the ability to switch to Comfort and have the comfort level of a class above.  It really does make that much of a difference, and I'll probably use this mode 90% of the time.

Sat Nav was indeed a nice surprise to be honest.  I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was, and with the traffic alerts, every bit as good as my TomTom, but with much clearer instructions.

I'm sure that in time, auto brake is something that I'll just forget about as it becomes the norm.  I thought I'd be forever grasping for the handbrake lever, but I wast!

There is no doubt that Dynaudio will have more clarity across a wider volume range, and more bass, but yeah, standard audio is really good.  When you are plodding along a motorway with all the road noise, for me it hardly seems worth it.

Not sure whether anodised red looks a bit pink or whether it is just the photo. It is easy enough to anodise in a bold red.

For me, in the grand scheme of things I wouldn't be bothered if I had to buy a new tax disc holder every 3 years!  It's a couple of beers and bag of nuts at a decent bar!

The standard anodised red one does have a pink tinge, and they fade in the light, making it worse over time.

Car looks the nuts Gryzor, and looks very similar to how mine will look (albeit mine drinks the devils juice ), it's now just making the wait even more painful.

Out of interest did you get the premium mats from the dealers, and if so (if you don't mind me asking), how much you paid for them, or did you do a deal ?

Cheers Norbreck :)  Haha, the devils juice will take you far my friend, further than mine ever could!

Yeah I got them from the dealers and got them thrown in for free, along with a tank of angel juice, round metal VW keyring, and GTI pencil
