Thinking of getting a mk7
« on: Today at 11:29 »
Hi ! I’ve recently been thinking of trading in my mk6 and getting there mk7 14/15plate - I had a few issues lately with my mk6 09plate and wanted some advice from you kind forum peeps.

So here goes !

Is it worth getting the mk7 or should I keep and enjoy my mk6 ?

What are the common issues to look out for when looking at the mk7s

Thanks in advance as I really appreciate any comments/advice/tips !

Common issues:

-Leaking tailgate drain hole at top of hatch or near wiper (mine was fixed when I got the car - someone will confirm)

-Water pump can fail causing leak in coolant system (my 14 plate is ok so far)

-Keyless entry gets through a key fob battery every 12months (easy to change)

-Front left wheel bearing can start to drone before the others. You have to replace the whole hub assy)

-Screen on infotainment system can go a bit haywire in cold weather (£650 to upgrade to later MIB2 unit). I can live with this

-start/stop can be erratic and is irritating (I coded mine off)

-inside of headlamps gets a crazing effect with age. Needs new headlamp to fix (expensive!). I’m tolerant of mine. You may be able to use as a negotiation point if the seller is unaware they all do it)

-If you are getting a PP (which I strongly advise)- the VAQ diff needs a fluid change every 3 years - often overlooked (not a problem but use it as a negotiation point)

-check for evidence of sunroof leaks like any sunroof car.

No real problems though- they are quick and easy to make very quick with a cheap remap.

Heated leather is lovely

Happy shopping!
Mk7 CSG PP with 3 pedals! A lot of carnauba. A bit of extra go. A bit nicer in the twisties.

What are the issues with the Mk6 and how expensive would it be to fix then.

I'd push the boat out for a 15 plate onwards if you can. Cars built after week 22 2015 got a much better standard spec than cars built before.

Mk6 issues I’ve had to sort since owning it - most recent as in last week - coil pack and spark plug change new radiator, turbo went but luckily got it replaced on warrenty  - oil leak - water pooling in driver footwell - just to name a few these have all been sorted .

PP= Performance Pack  - gives you bit more power, bigger brakes and the VAQ

VAQ = trick electronically controlled limited slip differential... better cornering capability.
