Top gear. Have tested the Miltek GTI.

Nice review.

Why oh why do some of those people that comment on magazine write ups bother getting out of bed in the morning? Or maybe they don't?!! Silly comments from people that have obviously never been within ten yards of a mk7 Golf.

No mention of the VAQ diff in that write up, I thought the Milltek one had the PP? Unless the torque just overwhelms it which would explain why the Cupra with 280 bhp only has the same torque as the GTI (which maybe backs up the comments from one of the GTI engineers at launch saying the VAQ e-diff could only handle limited power).

The Milltek GTI would come in at about the same ££££ as an R, so you'd have to seriously hate the front bumper and seats in the R to consider the GTI instead...

Another reason to pick the GTI over the R is the VAQ. Nobody has really reviewed the Golf R properly yet and I have a suspicious feeling the Haldex system still understeers, hence why VW did the first press drives on slippery ice to conceal that fact.

Yup a great write up, just goes to show that both cars have their advantages, if it was a PP GTI it might have been a even closer verdict.
No regrets getting the GTI, loving every moment of it :)

A woman's owners take: Agree with everything except... it is FUN to drive, and I'm more than happy it's not scrappy round the corners. It feels sure footed and never feels like it could let go. Reassuring and a dream to drive.
