I've fitted a hood before, its pretty much as per the guide! the real tricky bit is getting it to sit right along the front edge, need to fiddle till its just right.
-
cool i'm goin for a mohair roof
how long did it take u to fit it
bit of a stupid question but when u buy a hood do they come with fitting instructions
-
theres some great info on here dan, search hood in the search forum and it comes up about 5 threads down.step by step with pics
-
Took about a day, but we were going slowly to make sure we did it right.
The one i bought came with instructions, was from a DE shop but cant remember what it was called now. the link i posted above has excellent instructions, nothing in there that the ones that came with the hood said any better :)
Oh and I recommend you get new side and rear tension cables, your old ones are likely to be bust!
-
i saw a mohair hood on ebay it said it comes with the tension cables so its all good there when i get one
what i better do is hav a read through the link then save the step by step in a word document so iv allways got it
do that later when i'm on my own comp
cheers

Jon, did you need to pack it out any when you refitted it?
Dan, might want to check the rear window surround as well if your taking your hood off, they are notorious for going rusty as the water seems to sit there when raining.
Dinx

the hood i was lookin at was fitted to the car
in the picture i mean
i'm kinda guessin i won't get a new window but do u get the inner skin aswell and all the waddin inbetween the 2 layers
also do u get a new window seal
i'm goin to b fittin a new roof in the furture an greeasin the mech as its a bit on the stiff side
and my roof has been ripped i cna get a mohair hoodfor 215 with 15 postage off ebay
it doesn't say weather it comes with the other bits i mentioned cnas anyone answer that for me who has bought a hood b4
-
han do you mean the insulationy stuff inside? if so the covering over it was a bit screwed so we had to re-sew some fabric over the top, but apart from that no packing was required :)
no other seals are included, just the hood material itself, we got some glue to stick it plus black sealant for the rear screen, and some rivets.
-
I think you'll find I'm called dinx.... bit of a difference...
Yes, the insulation/packing, this I am assuming is between the liner and the actual hood. Just I know sometimes when removing/changin cables can result in a different shape, shall we say, of the hood
cheers
-
so if its just the outer skin i'm gettin what can i use as the insulation stuff an is there anywhere i could get the iner skin fromaswell and how hard is it to fit
-
sorry about that :embarassed:

Have fitted two of the hoods from this ebay supplier - couldnt find any faults with either of them, strange as it says they are seconds.
Bit of a sod to fit - this guide helped though:

You can get the rubberised horse hair that goes in between the outer and liner from here
http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/p-1532-rubberised-horsehair.aspx - 1 sheet should be enough
You need to fabricate a material liner though if yours is dead (see pics) make yours a bit wider than mine though to cover the hinges on the edge, i used heavy white cotton with water proof ripstop edges):
