I think you will be surprised how many are here. I was in the UK over Christmas and I did nearly 2000km of driving (from Kent to Liverpool and generally around Kent) and I did not see a single GTi which was quite surprising. The day we left SA I saw 3 on the way to the airport and 2 on the day we got back(although one of them was my new one

VWSA was making MK1 Golfs up until a few years a go so parts a readily available and cheap. If you get a chance when you are out here try get to Port Elizabeth. The VW factory is there and they do a pretty impressive factory tour (the build right hand drive Polos) and the also have a VW museum there. It's about 400lm from Cape Town
Even the police in gauteng use gtis, by the thousand!how come you used a dealer in durban if you live in pretoria?
My new Pure White GTD arrived with me today on the back of a Transporter. Ordered from Lee in Cheltenham VW. As I am in N Ireland I had it collected by a transport company, they collected it yesterday and had told me it would be over here late next week. Got a phone call 2.30 today, guy said are you home 5.00 to 6.00 tonight as we have a Golf for you!! It needs a wash after 400 miles on the back of a lorry but so impressed with the car. Love it..
Getting it detailed on Friday so maybe take some pics after that.Spec is 5 door, manual, heated leather seats and discovery nav.
