any ideas of what can get it off?
iv tried wd40 - hot soapy water to no avail.
iv been reading and wet and dry sanding seems to be the way forward but i have never done any thing like this before. is it worth trying? dont like the idea of sanding my car lol.
theres not too much, it just depresses me seeing it like the way it is lol
my car is a mk4 gti

try a little bit of tar remover
-
ill give that ago - any specific?
any reason to why you say a little? can it effect the paintwork?
-
I wouldn't go for the wet and dry option unless you really know what your doing as you could end up making it look a whole lot worse !!

anything in conjunction with another chemical can affect paintwork/clearcoat
just try a test spot, it might work
just trying to think of what one might use in everyday life (besides cars) to remove glue off something?

is nail polish remover a bit too aggressive? :undecided:
-
i was thinking along similar lines.. maybe try this if nothing else shifts it... maybe on a cotton bud :undecided:
-
yeah iv bin thinking to try that as a last resort but dont fancey stripping my paintwork for a little spot lol!
some people have said diesel, what do you think? could it damage the paint?

How the hell have you got superglue on your bonnet.
Might be worth trying google as I'm sure someone else would have also done this
Noticed this on halfrauds:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_185723_langId_-1_categoryId_165691#dtab (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_185723_langId_-1_categoryId_165691#dtab)
No idea if it will work on glue bonded to paintwork (or damage the surrounding paint).
Maybe try razor blade to get the main bits off (if lump of glue) but would need rubbing down (wet and dry) and polishing afterwards
Good luck with whatever options you go with

Razor blade or scapel blade, I've tried nail varnish remover before and it didn't work, though I guess it didn't have acetone in it?
Read this might be helpful

right... DO NOT try this glue remover on your paintwork... read the Customer Q&A on that webpage
-
i wont be lol read it already.
i got it on there because i had a crack in my scuttle panel and i was trying to seal it, not realising there glue on the tissue i placed it on the bonnet :( ill get a pic as most of it is really thin, so it might be able to polish 80% of it

Try this, stick 2 layers of masking tape each side of the super glue, then carefully "chisel" the SG with a brand new stanley knife blade at a very acute angle, the masking tape will stop the blade reaching the paint, but will remove the SG, as you get the "feel" for it, peel back one layer of masking tape to get a closer shave, lubricate heavily with washing up liquid, final remnants of the SG can then be tackled with 1500grt wet/dry, this time, use cellotape as your guide, as its much thinner, you must use a hard rubber rubbing block in this part of the process, once fully removed, area should easily buff up with a little Tcut and some elbow grease, or better still, a quick once over with a machine and a bit of G3

thanks mate, sounds like a good plan.

-
Personally I would use a sharp chisel, VERY carefully!

We have just got the ValetPro Tar and Glue remover in stock. Not too sure how good it will be on Super Glue, but it's got to be worth a try for £6.95.

I really would NOT use any sharp objects on your car, too much risk of real damage.

surely the same technique used for removing paint runs can be applied to this situation and still be effective?

well abit of good news, after doing some reading on google i came across a coulpe of other people who had done the same thing.
they ended up using this super glue remover from halfords.
so today i decided to take the plunge and give it ago , and to my suprise it worked and it didnt effect the paintwork!
i applied it inside the boot 1st before i applied to my bonnet. i used some cotton wool and applied it to the patch 4 times each time wipeing it away after leaving it for 20secs. and it slowy went.
the only thing it left, was fine scratches which will easily polish out when i get round to it.
thanks for the help everyone :smug:
