If its that cold you would have a block heater that you plug into the electrical supply I think these are standard in Canada?

Do the 2010 Golfs have engine block heater?

Yes I've seen Aux Heater in Measuring Blocks and component test the same as Doc but again it won't test if its not fitted?

Finally looked this up on my vagcom.

Car was cold and had climate set to auto and temp was set to 21oC

Ignition on:



Upon starting the engine:



Then a few seconds later:



Next is with the widscreen heating program selected:



Next I pressed the "OFF" button on the climate control - it turned off the aux heater:
