MX5 - Project 50/50 New Shoes pg2
« on: 02 February 2012, 12:29 »
Well... This little beast should be a good bit of fun when I don't fancy dropping all my cash through my golfs fuel tank!

I am going in on this MX5 as a completely solid 50/50 deal on EVERYTHING with a friend of mine.  We were looking into what mazda's to get and spent a lot of time ooing and ahh'ing. In the end, it came down to a pretty hung over state where I said, f**k it, lets buy a MX5 today. And we did just that! Went and took a look at the first one we found on ebay and we went back to buy it the next day. It was the first and last car we looked at!

So, this is what we have. Car cost £500 minus an MOT and TAX. Well....actually, make that £250 since everything is 50/50!

Things that we found out were wrong on the way home. left light had blown, rear shocks - dead, brakes - dead, it oversteers - WIN! - subsiquant loss of clutch - now dead. Haha

As this is going to be a track toy ultimately, the first thing we did when we got back was strip the dash out!

So, from this:

To This!

Yesterday, out clutch turned up. So, que some late night, midweek mechanics! Finished up at around 2AM in the end! haha

Lots to come off this. Mainly stupidity and probably ruining a perfectly good car.

haha, I have had quite the fair share of comments already. Alas, its worth it!

Already signed up to MX5nuts, usually just for the classified's at the moment. The only thing I cant find much information on at the moment is how to do the timing advance on these, as you can advance to 14degrees?

Other than that, the car has had the front sub frame brace put on, (one of the ones built by one of the guys on MX5nuts), and new brake pads all round. The rear calipers had seen better days, especially the pistons, but it was nothing a wire wheel and sander didnt fix :)

Coilovers are sitting at home waiting to go on over the weekend. Hoping to get to llyden this Saturday for its first track outing!
