I take it your sill not running a knock sensor.

never was, never will be.

I was only asking as if you have say damaged a piston then a knock sensor could have helped.

after looking it today, it appears to be boost problems or maybe a weak spark. thinking maybe the n75 or maybe the diverter valve.

its all mechanically sound (within reason lol), its fueling good, etc. It runs fine off boost, but when it starts to come on boost, it starts to run like a bag of sh!t. i dont think there is a leak, as we checked it all over, but didnt pressure test it.

when it hits full boost, it makes a popping sound (fuel cut??) then has a loss of power and runs really sh!t.

it idles fine and apart from the above issues, its ok.

anyone shine some light on this?

after much thought and help by others, its now been diagnosed as the coilpacks. I guess its just one, but it would explain the very very very slight misfire/stutter that happened sometimes when the engine was cold and it came on boost. i guess that was the coilpack on it way out???

So i will send a nice set of ecs tuning hitachi "e" coil packs to the states and pick them up when i go over there in july. for now i will just replace the one thats broke and hope the others last until july!

:)

Have you actually done any diagnosis on this, or just arrived at a decision based on chin stroking and barstool philosophy?
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

This seems to be a common weak spot on tuned turbo engines.

I seem to remember reading a fair few incidents of coil packs failing after ecu tuning in the tuning section.

Lets hope its that simple

twas a dead coilpack, number 2.

so fitted with a genuine vw coilpack (r spec) which i was given for free! thanks Dez!

so its all fixed and running sweet.

defo going to get on it and grab a new set of hitachi "e" coilpacks though. they should keep me going for a couple years or so.

now i just need to get my a$$ in gear and get it sprayed!
