as for the shift rod weight... I might try and look at A1 scrappy up the road... are they easy to take out?

You've got a G3 lying around doing nothing. Nick the one out of that!

Not a problem, makes a change to be helpful as mk1's are few and far between on here.

Yes, really easy to remove but I'm unsure if all models have them, I think they changed to something intergrated and more heavy duty on later models or 16v GTIs with O2A boxes????:undecided:  Just look in the nearside of a mk3's engine bay, quite low and close to the bulkhead for the part pictured above, it's only held in by two split pins.

The late type i'm on about look like this:

I reckon its not on Vr's or valver mk3s as they have a cable change box. 8v gti has rod change and I think that will have the weighted shifter

Yeah thats it... ABF's and VR's have the above. 8v GTI and lesser models have what you need.

I am keeping the rivage as standard as possible. Suspension was the only real non-standard mod.
