Title: Bought now need advice!
Post by: Gibbsy on 26 March 2003, 22:21
Hey guys, i finally got my MK3 L reg 5 speed golf that i wanted. I'm only 18, so getting a car like this was great ?;D

Just a few questions, obviously for insurances purposes i was limited somewhat and forced into getting a 1.4.

The engine is fine, only feels very underpowered?

What things can i have done to increase to BHP etc, without mr insurance man going crazy.

Cheers Nath

Induction kit, exhaust and that is about it.  Unless you dont tell them.  Just make it look good then you dont have to worry about speed you can just cruise

Hiya Gibbsy, your not the only one mate;

After passing my test in November '02 I've been bombing round in a 1997 R Reg,  1.2 Multipoint-inejection Fiat Punto (75bhp) and two weeks ago I got rid; just fancied a change.. So I go out, and I buy myself a 1.9 Diesel Golf (Non-turbo), although this is also 75bhp it feels VERY underpowered compared to the Punto. (Okay smaller car - but still, a 1.9 Engine has to feel more powerful?) ??? ??? ???

- I had 121mph over the M62 out of the Punto back in Januray, muahahaha, and it's only a 1.2 Engine, only K&N Air filter mod. *Evil laugh*
0-60 on it too was approx 10 seconds flat. ;D
- The Golf, 1997 L reg , struggles to reach 95mph & an amazing 0-60 time of 15.6s. I was kinda dissapointed, yet to mention that the insurance was another ?170. (Brings grand total to ?1650 now).  :-/

Speaking of insurance, if the worse comes to the worse and you have a knock or something and the insurance finds out you have an Air Filter on it, all you have to say is "WTF? You liar" lol.. nah.. just say you bought the car like that, simple as.

*Wonders if anyone is selling a 1600/1800 or 1900Tdi mk3 Golf* heheh  ;D

Ian.
