5 year service MK7.5 Cambelt/chain

Morning All,
5 year service is due & VW didnt stipiulate cambelt/chain replacement so foolishly I asked the question as my previous golf was a belt.
Since quoted standard £669.
Only covered 24500 miles.
Thoughts everyone? Leave it???

What are the service department saying- is it a serviceable item, and if so at what interval?
Or are they simply saying “ this is the cost if you want it done?”

The GTi is a chain. There is no fixed interval for replacement (from VW Ireland). Inspection yes for stretch through inspection hatch. Timely oil changes are key.

The 2.0 litre EA888 engine in the GTI has a timing chain which is a non-serviceable item. The chain can stretch with age and mileage but that shouldn’t be an issue on a 5 year old car that’s only covered 24.5k miles that been well maintained / serviced in line with VW’s recommendations. As the car gets older, then it would be prudent for the chain to be inspected for signs of stretch, and then replace as appropriate, but replacement shouldn’t be necessary for a good few years yet.

If ever worried about chain stretch it is possible to check the timing electronically using vcds which gives an indication of any stretch. As said previously should not be a problem given the mileage for some years yet.
