Automatic Cruise Control
« on: 09 July 2013, 23:04 »
This is just fantastic technology.

It does freak you out a little at first when the car takes control but after a while you just sit there and think 'wow this is amazing'

It has different settings so you can decide how close you are to the car in front and behaves differently depending on the mode you choose.

And five insurance groups lower....

I'm definitely looking forward to trying this on my normal A14 commute.  Gonna make life so much easier.

Say for instance you are following a car in the middle lane of a motorway at 60 with the cruise control set at 70 (of course), the instant you move into the fast lane off it goes.
The acceleration depends on the mode you are in at the time.

Still trying to get my head around it - brilliant.

Just how close can you get to the car in front with the system active? The reason - I get very cross if people move into my safe distance zone (i.e. cutting in).

Tell me about it! That's so annoying.  You slow down to make room and in they pop, so you slow down again and, oh look another dipsh!t cuts in.  It's times like these I wonder why my car doesn't have James Bond rocket launchers behind the headlights.

It's about two chevrons on the 'close' setting.

I haven't tried 'very close' yet but I don't think there will be very much difference.

Thanks bud that's interesting. Still room for b*stards to cut in though

Maybe set to 'very close' will be spot on?

Would have to be less than a car length to stop some people!

The insurance companies seem to think it is a very good idea.

Somehow, if someone does cut in, you don't care.
Cool calm and collected.

The car that is.

ADC Sounds great......however what if you switch it off and then you roll into a car in front?

Will your insurance pay out?  ECU says you switched it off?
