Colour coded wing mirrors - mk2
« on: 23 March 2005, 21:12 »
Hey

I have been thinking of getting my mirrors colour coded as I need some other bits painting so thought I could get it done at the same time. I had a spare one which I tried to dismantle to just the mirror housing and not the black metal arm as I only want to paint this bit. Is there a way of seperating them as I couldn't figure it out? Or is it a case of masking of the arm and then smoothing/spraying the plastic housing? this option seems a bit crude!

I also had the idea of tinting my mirrors like the new golfs/bmw's etc with the light blue tint. Has anyone done this? I was thinking of just buying the window tinting film and having a go but don't know if it might go too blue. I only want a slight tint.

Any advice on either greatly appreiciated!

if your having the paint work done by someone else you'd assume their masking skills would be pretty good! should be fine, also i seem to think you can buy the wimmor glass ready tinted?! if not a film should do the trick.

Yeah thts what I was after, I want to do mine like blues but red .

Is it just a case of masking the arm and spraying the case then?

Have you painted your metal arms black aswell? mine are starting to look a bit faded so I was going to try this too, satin black or something not too glossy.

Anyone know where you can get the tinted mirrors from if they do exist?

Cheers

the resprayer masked the mirror carefuly and just popped the mirror off.

I use tyre jel on the black plastics so there is no need of spraying them

if you do tint your mirror you might find it hard to see clearly at night. just buy some very light blue tint and give it a go?
