« on: 22 November 2003, 22:26 »
i have an MK2 85 gti and am concerned about how high my engine revs at motorway speeds,  i usually do around 130 km/h on the motorway in 5th gear my RPM is usually a scary 5000 (or so) RPM and i am worried about rning at that high of an RPMat long periods with my engine thats getting tired (180000 km).

RPM's dont wear engines out. Dirty oil or over heating do. If thats the correct gear box for your car, it should not be a broblem. 180,000km on a VW , it is just starting to loosen up ;).

if I cruise for miles on the motorway at 5000rpm the oil temp will be higher than usual like 110?c, but I don't think it hurts the engine. not in 5th anyway.

well the car defintely idle'd too high before i had it sorted.. the engine would race too.. once i got it back it behaves how one would expect.. they only changed the cambelt, alternator belt and power steering belt..

right my mistake,  but anyhow running it at 4000 RPM in 5th for a long time wont wear the engine?
