A chap I used to work with took his car to VW for a pre MOT check, they quoted virtually a full new suspension amongst other things and wanted approx £1500 to fix, £400 later his car had passed an MOT at a specialist VW garage.  So sounds about right what they are telling you Bob, anyway surely 3mm of tread ain't an MOT failure just a advise??

bit dubious that its the actual lock thats broken - surely its just a catch and a soleniod  :undecided: it was your rear passenger door that has problems? - for that price i'd want a gurantee that if the problem isn't cured i'd want my money back!

as for your list

1 - tell them to fook off
2 - £50 to rectify with discs and pads and hour of your own time
3 - wishsbones possibly? basically they are £25 per side and just 5 bolts un-does them - about an hour's labour max
4 - get a new bracket welded on
5 - minimum legal limit is 1.8mm so plenty of mileage left
6 - i paid £30 from VW themselves for my fluid change 2 WEEKS AGO!
7 - need them - time to upgrade to full aero

don't worry about the cambelt - its 40K or every 4 years.  I expect your service book isn't stamped with it so they've taken one look and gone 'its not been done' they keep trying to tell me the same thing yet i've got receipts to prove the work was done

I don't actually have a service book.  But I have the receipt FROM VW showing the cam belt was done.  All the work carried out on the car since purchase has been done by VW, yet they have no record of it!!  Idiots.

Brake fluid is only 12 months aold, would I be right in saying I only need a top up?  Surely only a few quid?

again they've listed things based on the lack of your service book

ignore them is your best course of action!

I'd get a second opinion from an independent garage before you do anything.
And I wouldn't take my car to a main dealer they charge extortionate prices
I often wonder why people never expect sarcastic comments from me - they're the only reason I speak...

Brake fluid shouldn't really need topping up, to be fair.  BUT, it should be replaced every 2 years REGARDLESS of mileage, as the fluid naturally absorbs moisture from the atmosphere.  The £40 is for a complete change, Bob, not just a top-up.  Prob about 1/2 hr labour they're quoting there.

The brake fluid, easy job though isn't it?  Drain it out, then top up with new stuff, whilst bleeding?
