Convenience Control Unit - No remote central locking
« on: 12 November 2007, 13:03 »
Hello

My remote central locking doesn't work.
I took my car to VW and they say the convenience control unit has failed. Everything else works fine.
They have quoted my £350 to replace it. Seems a bit steep to me.

They said it's a common problem. Surely they should replace it for free if it's common.

Is it easy to replace? It's in the centre console isn't it? Seen one on eBay for £125.

Any suggestions?

Everything else works fine.

VW say it could be caused by a water leak.

Not too happy about it really.

Got a MK2 Golf and the central locking still works on that after 15 years!!

yeah thats pretty poor

if its caused by a water leak i'd be more concerned about fixing that! otherwise you'll see another CCM go up in smoke

Just scanned my car with Vag Com and the error is:

35 00 - Incorrect Key Programming.

Does this sound like the CCU is faulty?

It's booked in for tomorrow.

They charged me £42 just to tell me that the "CCU is beyond repair".

Not sure what to do now!!!

whereabouts you located? might be worth putting a shout out for someone local to you with VAG COM who can do a little digging.

does the central locking still work via the key in the door?

try the following:

You can do this yourself, there is a procedure for doing it. One using VAG COM, and the other using the ignition barrel of the car.

VAG COM :
1. All doors must be shut (can have drivers door open, just flick the switch in the lock so it thinks it shut!)
2. Key in ignition, turned on, not running (usual vag com stuff)
3. Start VAG Com
4. go into 46. Cent. Conv
5. 10 - Adaptation, chanel 1 change key number to 2 (if you have 2 keys) save > done go back
6. go back into cent. conv and select 08. meas. blocks
7. meas block 13 - with key in the ignition, press the button, you will see it say ok (x3) and key number 1.
8. press the buttons on your other key with key 1 still in the ignition & hopefully you will see it say ok (x3) and key number 2.
9. unplug vag com, get out the car with the keys and test!!

Without VAGCOM
1. Place your first key into the ignition and turn to the second notch (do not start the car)
2. Now close the door and place your second key into the handle lock
3. Turn the key to the lock position and let it spring back to the central position.
4. Hold down the Lock button on your new remote, you may hear a bleep from the car
5. Now unlock the car using the key in the barrel and remove, then take your first key out of the ignition
6. Close the door
7. Your remote should now be coded

you will need a second remote though

ask the stealers to check the coding in your keys
