Also used to have a Remus Axle Back but the quad pipe version and it sounded much better than stock. But if down the line you do a res delete it will drone unless you get an Helmholtz anti drone res delete, even then you will notice some at 60-70mph and it will be significantly louder than stock also but much deeper and crisper.

Having gone down a similar route recently on my TCR I was looking for something OEM+ and after fitting a Remus I have been really happy with the noise when you a both on it and also just cruising. I loved the stock sound but wanted something louder when I was really enjoying the car.

I have just got back from a 200 mile trip down the motorway and the Remus Is no louder than the stock exhaust, and only comes alive when you are on it. A perfect mix if you ask me as a golf needs to be classless for every use.

I have been looking for an Akrapovic Exhaust for ages and have now found one so will be taking the Remus off and selling it. I wanted £700 but would take £600 if that was of interest. It is on a MK7.5 with an OPF so not sure how that would fit but I think the non-Opf downpipe is just longer so would fit the same I think? Sure someone on here will be able to confirm.

Res delete (anti drone, if required) and a clubsport s back box would be my first choice, or pick up a second hand standard back.

Golf mk7 / Axle back exhaust mk7
« Last post by Henners on 24 April 2024, 18:11 »
Hi, first time posting. Found similar posts when searching but nothing specific..

I have a MK7 Golf GTI PP DSG 2016. I bent my exhaust pipe while doing a rather enthusiastic three point turn. Brilliant. After getting my mechanic to look at it, he says the rear muffler and pipes need replacing. I believe this is called an Axle Back exhaust modification.  He phoned around and it looks like a stock GTI muffler and pipes are around the £600 mark, which isn't far off a sports exhaust. So then I got thinking I might as well go for something which sounds a bit better.

I've heard of Milltek, Remus and a few others, or there is a Clubsport S muffler. I'm looking for a sportier more entertaining exhaust note but mainly while getting on it at higher revs, as opposed to loud all the time. I also don't want droning on the motorway or to annoy the neighbours with aggressive loud cold starts early in the morning. Aside from sitting in each setup in person, can anyone recommend which might be my best option forward, while trying to keep as close as possible to the £600 mark of stock?

I plan to go Revo stage 1 at some point so it needs to be future proof for that.

From my research it seems a Clubsport S muffler box and pipes would do the job - a better noise when accelerating hard, a bit more idle burble, but not a full expensive cat back system or res delete. As I understand, an axleback replacement does not affect the flow of gases enough to require any form of ECU remap. Does this all sound about right or am I wildly off?

Thanks
H

Must do this myself, had a good run there the other day and was back at 38mpg the day after I can barely get 32mpg. Strange though as I typically have nice long runs 40+ miles, although maybe not that the right speed to let it regen.

Very confused! Looking to buy an original VW space saver but lots of different product numbers. My vehicle has 19inch Adelaide wheels. Will 1K0601027B which is an 18inch wheel do the job? If not what product should I be seeking? Thanks

Not sure on part numbers but the price of new wheel and tools from vw is over 400!
I took all my tools and spare wheel from my mk7.5 GTI performance I had from new(19" Brescia's) and put in my mk8 (19s adelaides) all fits perfectly in boot and on car if that helps you out.

Great job you’re doing there with the database Damian and Andrew.  I’m 2nd owner of 224 and it’s now in Aberdeenshire.  Was registered in January 2017, air con and Pure White.

Thanks Massi for posting, that’s one more missing car. 👍

I find such a big difference driving my mk3 over my more modern cars.

Still makes me smile though.

Thank you for your support and advice.  It was invaluable.
I took it along a dual carriageway and drove at 70 mph and then dropped to 30 mph without braking.  I did this about ten times!  It worked.  Now back to normal.

Good to hear it worked!
