Title: MY22 spec differences
Post by: ash_rage on 06 July 2021, 19:58
Hi all

Currently waiting a build week for my E45, VW tell me the hold up is pending MY22 changes and them not deciding what they are yet.

I have a brochure from May 2021 and July 2021 and from what I can see they have added a bunch of new optional equipment, I cant see any additions or subtractions from the standard equipment options other than additions to the style model such as LED "plus" headlights

July 21 brochure:
https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/files/live/sites/vwuk/files/pdf/Brochures/golf-8-brochure-pricelist-p11d.pdf (https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/files/live/sites/vwuk/files/pdf/Brochures/golf-8-brochure-pricelist-p11d.pdf)

May '21 brochure:

https://we.tl/t-GSVRMoeg6W (https://we.tl/t-GSVRMoeg6W)

If I am wrong and this doesn't prove the changes then we have a thread ready for when someone does know!

May be a coincidence but my order has done the usual drop off the tracking page since July 1st, waiting for it to appear again

Looks like a price rise?

Looks like a price rise?

Noticed that too. E45 is over £40k without extras now

Was already purchased the MK 7.5 TCR when the MY 20 changes came into being and one of the changes was the adding of the Akrapovic so the MY 20 prices obviously went up quite a bit but for me it meant quite a decent freebie as my purchase price remained same.

So a MY change does not necessarily mean an 8.5 it can just be a slew of additions or even removals, (such as in past the under seat drawer)

No, it’s normal practice for VW to ‘tweak’ the spec of their cars every year for the next model year (MY), so that equipment levels remain competitive compared to other car manufacturers products. Any MY changes that are being introduced now are just minor tweaks for next year’s model year, and those tweaks can sometimes be cost cutting spec reductions!

VW’s main MY changes used to always be from build week 22 and in some years, there were further small changes from build week 45, but since the WLTP debacle it seems to be a bit more random when MY changes are introduced. Sometimes, VW don’t make any MY changes, especially early in a car’s lifecycle when the original spec is still ‘fresh’.

Usually, the facelift doesn’t happen until mid way through a model’s life cycle, so assuming the mk8 Golf has an 8 year lifecycle, then the mk8.5 facelift won’t be due until sometime in 2024. Facelift changes are usually more than just spec upgrades and normally include minor external design changes as well (e.g. bumpers, alloys, light clusters), and sometimes engine bhp increases to help maintain customer interest and sales volumes through to the end of the model’s life cycle.

So a MY change does not necessarily mean an 8.5 it can just be a slew of additions or even removals, (such as in past the under seat drawer)

Agree.

If they haven't nailed down the spec then they haven't got type approval... if they don't get type approval by 6th July.... then ISA will need to be fitted... Although its not "mandatory" until 2024, any type approvals from here on out need to have it. I am fairly sure that each MY needs type approval.

I've also seen some other stuff that MY22 builds won't start until October...

The GTI badge on the steering wheel is now red instead of plain silver from factory on MY22

Will be useful in future to identify if a car is MY22 onwards or not

Thank you. Will be interesting to see if they have new software for the new infotainment hardware and whether it's more stable than current one

Hopefully at some point they will release an update for the older units that will fix all the niggly bugs. My dealer told me they are working on it....

And is there a speed limiter preventing you going above the speed limit on the road?

Not that you would ever know of course, no one does that in any car

Nope. There is a “warning” / message to take your foot off the accelerator, but nothing preventing you from going above, not that I’ve tried……. :lipsrsealed:
