Big discount (relatively speaking) on Drive The Deal. Over £5k off.

Is that partly due to the £2,000 VWF contribution?

I always wonder about high factory contributions. Usually a sign of low desirability.

Yes, discounts on Drive the Deal’s website include VW’s finance deposit contribution - from their website;

’The quoted prices include a £2,000 finance deposit contribution which is conditional upon you taking out PCP finance arranged by the dealer. If you do not wish to take out this finance, then you will need to add £2,000 to the prices that we quote.’

IMHO taking the PCP finance to get the £2,000 deposit contribution is a no brainer. If you don’t want PCP finance, take it anyway as you always have the option to withdraw from the PCP contract during the 14 day cooling off period and you get to keep the £2k contribution.

Dealer contributions don't affect Road Tax for cars >£40k do they?  If you buy a new VW with a listed price of £41k and they give you a £2k contribution, you still have to pay the extra car tax of £550 a year (or whatever ridiculous amount it is now).

Couldn't VW reduce the listed price by £2k instead so you wouldn't have to pay the tax?

That is correct, the luxury car tax is measured off the RRP of the vehicle (which nobody pays any more)

Surprised nobody commented on the awd on this.

Does seem a bit weird at only 190ps but might interest some

Had back to back Audi Quattro 185 BHP Diesel (was a good company car choice then) on AWD and combination worked really well, especially with the increased torque, they felt a really weighty and planted combination of Diesel and AWD.

Do think going into the 200BHP would have been a better choice, but suppose its keeping it out of the GTI territory.

There weren't many things you could add to the Black as options.... I picked a few and it was low 39's. Maybe if you added Navpro (why?????) you'd top 40k.

So the 40k limit isn't really a problem with this car.

Shows how much ICE have developed in terms of efficiency and output that a 2.0 litre ‘only’ produces 190 PS.
Last petrol car I had (21 years ago) before the GTI was a Mercedes C240 with a V6 2.6 litre engine running at 172 PS.
Replaced in 2005 with a 2.7 ton Discovery 3 with a 2.7 litre diesel also running at 172 PS.

It might be EA888 V4, as per the Polo GTI+, with Audi valve lift tech and Budack cycle running, haven't tgat output. If that's the case, you have both DI and port fuelling (no coking up) and the Budack cycle gives impressive fuel economy on motorway runs - my GTI+ would do 47mpg doing 80mph on the motorway, and 54mpg maintaining 70mph.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

How does the S3 compare to that economy now you’ve got a few miles on it MH?
