Title: Heater Bypass Valve... How to... with pics!!!
Post by: AndytheGreek on 23 December 2005, 00:40
i was fed up with poor heaters so i took the plunge in the modification.
it was quite easy really...

youll need two small lengths of 22mm copper tubing
(about 4in and 5in)
a screw driver
some water and anti-freeze

heres what you have to remove:

heres what you put in its place:

the finished look:

this modification WORKS A TREAT, the heaters are UNBEARABLY hot too!!
i'll keep ya posted if my heater matrix goes, as its the original one from 1990.

Merry Xmas  :santa:

Dont forget to massage your hoses a little when bleeding the system.

Yeah if you could get new ones. They dont make them anymore mate. You can get 2nd hand ones but they will probably be just as busted as your own ones.

my heater matrix was/is blocked (brrrrrr) with rad weld i guess (yuk)

anyhow i flushed n flushed n back flushed n front flushed the bstard to no avail...

so a tiny 2inch G-clamp on the bypass tube did the trick !

worked well, taken it off now (fear of blowing the matrix)

still got warm air,  luurvely ... (beats de-icing the inside of the screen !!)

i just changed my valve for aone i cut out of another car at the loacl breakers and its working a treat  first time ive had warm air since ive had the car but now the little red temp light flashes sometimes any ideas?  im sure it must be related.  does it flash a certain amount of times to tell me why its flashing etc etc?  i would start a new thread but i reckon it could be a related problem worth mentioning

This light is probably just your level warning one. Check your water level in your header tank.
